Phil,

Thanks for the reply. I understand there wouoln't be a need for anybody owning a BDA-1 to run the Touch from the analog outs, but posted the question to gauge how large an improvement users thought the BDA was over the DAC inside the Touch.

Why do you use the Marantz and the Oppo into the BDA instead of only using only one of them? Not challenging, but rather thinking I'm missing something here.

What is an HDMI de-embedder?

Horacio - can't answer about the analog outs.  There are lots of threads on Audio Circle.  Bolder Cable also does analog and digital mods to the Touch.  Might want to look at those comments.

In order to pass SACD by HDMI you need HDMI version 1.2 or later.  The Marantz is HDMI 1.1  The Marantz is also a better CD transport to my ears.  I had it in the secondary basement system and when I got the Oppo BDP-93 for the bedroom system I shifted stuff around and moved the old Oppo DV980H which I also use with an HDMI audio de-embedder (and an Emotiva DAC) in the basement system.

There's a whole very long thread about it here: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=82217.0

My (modded) Oppo BDP-83 does not even require a handshake.  I merely take the HDMI out into the de-embedder and pass a coax output to the DAC.  The de-embedder I have is made by Port-ta, a company based on Hong Kong.  They also make the device for Monoprice here: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=5557&seq=1&format=2

I have the Port-ta unit in the main system and the Monoprice one in the basement system and have a bunch of pics in my Gallery of them both.  I've included one here.  They are identical as far as I can tell.  It's a way to use an excellent DAC like the BDA-1 to play SACDs too.
