Just an update:

Alex wrote and said the DAC Plus will be completed by Aug15th, so please add another week for shipping to the US and hopefully I will be shipping these out to pre-order customers on the 22nd-23rd of August.

If you haven't already paid , please give me a call at 847-255-1150 by the 15th if you all would be so kind so I'm not overwhelmed with all the orders in a day or 2.

Thank you all for your support,
 Bill

Good news Bill!  Thanks for the update.

This last sentence is key.  I estimate an overhaul/upgrade of this magnitude would cost $1k USD even if the chassis was re-used, which in this case it could not.  Linn might upgrade the first LP12 from '72 to the current standard...for about $7-9k USD!

...The ~ $150 "loss" (not entirely a loss because you got some use out of it) incurred by selling yours and buying the Plus is far less money than an upgrade would cost...

How scary can it be? The current stock EE DAC has garnered almost universal praise as a "home run" in it's price range,  competing with much more expensive DACs...

Several present had the great pleasure of comparing one of these giant killers to a very high quality currently available $15k DAC and all who stated an opinion preferred the EE including myself.  System was very nice and high quality.  The EE had a few plug in mods, nothing too exotic, well below Wayne's I believe.

Greetings Bill,

A few quick queries:

1. Are you sending any from this first batch out to reviewers?

2. Being the first batch, what are the chances that there may be some issues that may arise which will then be 'upgraded' in the future shipments.  I see the $100 dscount for early adopters but wonder about the risk of getting version 1a.

3. What's the warranty on these?

4. Visiting your Morningstar website, these are supposed to be sold through dealers also?   I thought they were only sold direct before this.

Appreciate your comments.

Thanks,
UL

Yes, a few will go out for review.Dagogo, Stereomojo, Bound For Sound, Srajan at 6moons although I haven't been in contact with Srajan yet and if I can get Stereophile to review it that would be great also.I have not contacted Stereophile as of yet. I will pick at random a few DAC's and burn them in ahead of time for the reviewers and make sure no issues are happening.
I don't expect any issues with the DAC Plus, they do test them at the factory.
Warranty is a year. There are so many of the older DAC's that folks are rolling op-amps in that I have no way of knowing unless they are really hack DIY'e
rs if the units have been tampered with.I really rely on their honesty and that seems to be working.

We are about as easy to work with company as one could possibly be so if a problem does happen we take care of it.It really is as simple as that.

They are only sold direct thru Morningstar in the USA. For other countries we have distributors in the UK,Germany,Japan,Australia,Thailand,Netherlands,China,Russia and a few others that I would have to look up.
I know, I need to clean up and update my website, we are working on it, sorry.

No problem Bill.  Thanks for the quick responses.

Final query here.  What's the return policy on the EE products?

Thanks,
UL

I found this on Chinese Taobao, it's their ebay.  I think this is it but you can use Google translate to read more about it.  Some good pics though.

I believe this is a guy in China who heavily modified the original DAC. He used a photo of the DAC Plus though in his ad.

No MAC Lion driver at the moment. They just released the snow leopard one so I'm sure it will take a bit of time for Lion to be released.

On m2tech site it says that the firmware is 10.7 compliant

          10.6 Snow Leopard - 10.7 Lion compliant                 HiFace1048106.dmg.zip          80.0 KB  updated 03.05.2011

Is this not the firmware used by EE?

Also, have the DACs already been shipped out to customers?

Thank you

 Hi Arthur,

I just wrote Alex about your post on the Lion compliant, let me see what he says.
I was told about 2 weeks ago that the DAC's would be completed earlier than expected by the 15th, I wrote Alex on Friday night asking if the DAC's have been shipped yet. Here is his reply, please bear in mind that his father just passed away this week.

Hi Bill,

I am sorry there is so unexpected delay for about a week, they will be sent sometime
next week. The DAC Plus are at the final assembling line.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Alex

Alex just wrote me this.

Hi Bill,

The drivers for the USB M2Tech produced for our DAC Plus have different file names. I have asked M2Tech a few times but have not got their reply as I think Italy is on holiday. My Mac Book is 10.6. I do not have the Lion 10.7 OS to test if it is compliant to the 10.6 Snow Leopard. I hope M2Tech will come in next Monday or so, so that I get clear answer.

Just received this info from Alex.

Hi Bill,

Just got reply from M2Tech,

we have tested the present Snow Leopard driver under Lion and it works. So no new driver is necessary.

So the driver for Snow Leopard driver will work on the Lion.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Alex

Hi Trevor,

Alex's father passed away last week and the funeral service was on Wed. He wrote and said that the DAC's would be delayed a week in their delivery due to this loss and trying time for his family.

Thank you for your understanding as family needed to come first.

 Kindest Regards,
 Bill
