River Records in Memphis TN

Spent a couple of days in Memphis, TN this week. It was my first time to meet Jerry over at River Records. As I was referred by George Merrill, Jerry was extremely friendly and hospitable and welcomed us to his amazing and mysterious abode. Jerry has literally hundreds of thousands of used vinyl records, movie posters, placards and other pieces of music paraphernalia. He's extremely knowledgable about labels, pressings, record companies, limited issues, etc. A real source of history and a Memphis action figure to boot. If you ever get to Memphis, this place is worth a visit. You'll need a few days to even begin to sort it all out. I got lost and overwhelmed in the meager hour that I spent there. Here's a few pics. Jerry had tons (100,000) more in the back rooms, but the records were piled so high we couldn't even get through the doors. There must be thousands of gems in there, if any body had the time and the inkling and the antihistamines and the hand sanitizer and the patience and liked the smell of cat pee!  :D Me? I picked up an original, 1966 Columbia "360 Sound" Mono pressing of The Cyrkle's "Red Rubber Ball" LP.  :thumb:

BTW, how is George Merrill? Haven't seen him in probably 10 years.

Paul: Vertical storage isn't even the half of it. There was stuff literally EVERYWHERE in every single nook and cranny. I really wish that I had some time. The place was full of treasures. But... don't let the mess fool you. Jerry knows records... and that means he also knows what they're worth. I bought only 4 LPs that I thought showed promise, and sure enough, after a thorough cleaning they are Near Mint!  :thumb:

jmc207: George seems to be doing well and in his element. His store is open very limited hours, as it seems that he is operating more on an appointment basis for his sales and service. Nonetheless, it was crawling with people. Maybe because Tuesdays are one of the few days that his door is open to the public. Of course, he is constantly head long into his inventions. We exchanged some words over his "Groove Lube" record lubricant. He's become a VTL rep and authorized repair center, so I dropped off my preamp into his capable hands.
