Sounds fantastic. I am using one to drive my Martin Logans right now. Internal DAC is very detailed and smooth with my iPod.

Audiophools really missed the boat by ignoring Onkyo's "Wide Range Amplifier Technology"(WRAT) as it is essentially a high current/low feedback design.

I just picked up one of Onkyo's newer stereo receivers to power some on-wall Maggies, and it's done an amazing job. I was really REALLY apprehensive going this route, but I wanted an inexpensive solution. It handles the 5ohm load with ease and sounds great. I'd buy another Onkyo receiver in a heartbeat  :thumb:

With 80 watts per channel it will drive 6-ohm speakers to 100 watts easily. A good unit for the price.
Good luck!

Does this unit really extract the digital only output from an iPod. If so, does anyone know anything about the internal DAC?

The iPod input is via USB so it looks like this would remove the requirement for my Wadia dock.

This product looks very interesting but the user manual is not that clear on the iPod direct specs.

I have always liked Onkyo products.  And before the Onkyo I have had offerings from Denon, Pioneer Elite and Rotel.  For the price, you can't go wrong.

Even the Integra Research line, which I've owned for several were pretty good.

Goodluck!

Yep, the iPod connects to the ONK via USB on the front panel so it is digital in. I have no idea which DAC the ONK uses but it sounds very good IMO. I know the HK receivers use AKM DACs (my favorites) but HK does not yet offer digital iPod inputs. I'm sure that they will at some point. The TEAC units also offer iPod USB inputs but they are lower powered Class D amps. The ONK has some beef.

Does anyone own one of these? If so what how does it sound and have you had any problems with it?

I need a receiver or integrated amplifier for a bedroom system and was considering this Onkyo because of the internet radio capabilities built into it.

Option 2 for internet radio would be to go for an Onkyo HT receiver like the TX-NR509 but if they sound harsh or bright in the top end I'll forgo the internet radio and get a cheap integrated.
