SongTower "RT's" in dyed zebrawood

Greg wanted SongTowers RT's, a SongCenter and a pair of SongSurround I's in zebrawood.  It had been quite a while since we had done any speakers in that veneer.  It is a rather interesting but unusual wood.  The thing about unusual woods is that they tend to cost less because demand is less.  So zebrawood is very reasonably priced.

Greg and Eileen had seen zebrawood furniture that had been dyed with a brown dye and wanted the same type of treatment.  They sent a link to a site with a photo of the furniture in question.  It looked like a very nice treatment.  One of the reasons I think zebrawood is not in higher demand is the amount of contrast in the grain.  Dying would obviously reduce the contrast so I was very interested to see how this would turn out.

In the end, it was hard to judge the actual color from the photos on the web site, but everyone here thought the speakers turned out real nice--richer looking than natural zebrawood.  This is one case where the photos do not do the speakers justice, but here they are...

And a close-up...

Happy listening Greg and Eileen!

Those look hot dyed since most stuff done in zebrawood is natural.  :thumb:

My wife and I are very happy with the pictures that Jim sent yesterday. Now commences the hard part -- waiting for that Fedex delivery next week.  We consider this the most significant upgrade we will make to our sound system.  After this everything else is just tweaking around the edges.

Beautiful!

I think I like those better than the cherry I got........should have spent more time choosing a veener.

Hmmm... how about a speaker with removable panels so you can change the look anytime you want. :thumb:

From your gallery, yours could be dyed a little darker to match your other furniture. You don't have to stick with the current color. I would prefer a darker stain and with some red in it. Looks like you have an SVS sub to the left, rather than a bass trap. If so, another good choice. (sorry to thread hijack, but I could not leave a comment in your gallery).
