Streamlined Mac Mini (Tranquility style)...can't get iTunes to recognize artwork

Was hoping someone had an answer to this one as well.  A while back, I had a Tranquility DAC in for demo (loved the DAC, couldn't afford to keep it at the time).  In the process, I used the instructions provided to reduce some of the Mac system overhead.  It worked, and the system sounds better and smoother.

However, since then, I have had no luck in getting iTunes to recognize artwork for importing music.  iTunes says it is importing artwork after I rip a CD, but no artwork attaches to the songs themselves.

I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and, if so, how they "backed out" any of the Tranquility settings to alleviate this problem.

Thanks in advance,  -dB

A single copy of the artwork is save separately as a means to reduce disk consumption and increase iTunes performance, but you can get iTunes to save the artwork in the file by manually pasting the artwork into the info->artwork page.  You can easily do entire albums at once by selecting those songs.

Other than ensuring the correct artwork is there, several applications will download the artwork if missing.  If you migrate your iTunes library to one computer to the next, there is a way to ask iTunes to re-download the artwork again if missing.

You didn't mention format, so I'll add that cover artwork can be linked to all iTunes compatible music formats EXCEPT .wav format

I asked this knowing it might be a thorny question.  Since I'm not a current Tranquility customer, I didn't think it appropriate to distribute their system tweaks.  I thought that they (rightly) might consider it proprietary to their solution.  I didn't want to do that since Eric was so helpful.

I was simply wondering (hoping?) if anyone else had encountered this issue and was able to "back out" the changes.

For all I know, this problem could be of my own creation, so I can't say with certainty that the tweaks caused the issue.  I'm just trying to investigate all options.

I will look into upgrading iTunes, though I thought I had the latest version.

Thanks, -dB

Dburna,

When you rip with iTunes, iTunes put album art into it's library.  It doesn't attached the artwork to each file like many other rippers do.

Are you saying that when you rip a CD in iTunes, that album Art doesn't appear in iTunes?  If so, is unusual and a setting change in iTunes Preferences should correct this.

Or, are you saying that when you rip a CD in iTunes, then use another player, that the album art can't be seen?  If this is the case, this is normal.

For starters, I have the latest iTunes (10.2.2).  I just checked.

This problem manifests itself as follows:
1. I go into iTunes and import a CD.
2. At the end of the import process, the iTunes window says something like "processing album artwork".
3. When I look at/play a song in iTunes, the artwork is not there....either in the file itself or via that "Now Playing" preview window to the left of the iTunes main window.

At this point, all I can conclude is: A) iTunes seems to be trying to download the proper artwork into iTunes and B) something is preventing that from happening successfully.

For added reference, iTunes is the only player I (currently) use on this Mac Mini.

Does that help?  Probably not -- it only makes the problem seem stranger.  I do have the button selected so that iTunes automatically downloads artwork after import, though clearly something is breaking down in the process.

Hmmmmmmm,  -dB

I've never had or seen this before...I also use a Mini and have to go to the Advanced Tab and click on "Get Album Artwork".

What happens when you right-click on an album and select the "Get Album Artwork" option?

You need to be logged into the iTunes store to get artwork.

You could also try using Artwork Gofer.

Haven't tried the "Get Album Artwork" option.  Will have to do that next time I import a disc.

Artwork Gofer, though quirky (I can't always see the artwork in the AG screen), does seem to work just fine.  Sooooo, I know it's possible to import the artwork, it just doesn't work in an automated fashion (via iTunes) the way it used to.

You can do this if you have an album in your library that doesn't have artwork, it doesn't have to be one that you just uploaded.

This is a snippet from the iTunes Help function (search criterion: download artwork):

To have iTunes automatically download album artwork when you import a CD or add songs with missing artwork, choose iTunes > Preferences, click Store, and select “Automatically download missing album artwork.”.

dB,

Have you just tried to select all the songs of ONE ALBUM and selected (iTunes menubar) Advanced > Get Album Artwork ? What happens?

The above is for an album you ripped that did not automatically load the artwork.

If you are not signed into the Apple Store and you try the above, you will get a dialog that says "Getting album artwork requires you to have an iTunes Store account.  Please go to the iTunes Store and sign in or create a new account".  If you are signed in, you may want to try signing out and back in (Store > Sign Out and then Store > Sign In) to re-establish store connection.

You can also check if you are gaining proper access to the the iTunes Store and the Gracenote server by going to Help > Run Diagnostics and selecting Network Connectivity Test.

Selecting "Get Album Artwork" doesn't seem to work.  Signing out/in of my iTunes accounts didn't help either.  However, I can use Artwork Gofer and/or paste artwork into the album directly via cut-&-paste.

Curiouser and curioser,  -dB

is that Help within iTunes?  I can't find a Run Diagnostics option under help.

That Network Connectivity test is not an option on Mac OS
