I sort of freaked myself out, though, cause at first when I set the USB as the default, it wouldn't switch over and just kept using the internal speakers. I clicked on configure and saw a drop down where you could choose "enable" or "disable" the device. I clicked on disable, and all of a sudden the USB output was working perfectly.
