Looking for a cheap amplifier for rear speakers
« on: 19 May 2011, 02:41 pm »
I have a 7.2 HT and I need a cheap amp to boost my rears (Axiom M3ti's.)  Any suggestions?

Update:  After hours of reshearch I found the Audio Source AMP-100 at a bargain price. :P

I was going to recommend that one for $90 shipped from J&R, but I didn't because I haven't heard it, some reviews mentioned a loudspeaker pop on power up and lack of a 12V trigger.

But there aren't many <$100 power amps around, that's for sure.

Steve, I did reshearch on the "pop" issue.  It's caused by a power up by the AVR when the Amps auto On feature is enabled.  I'll defeat that feature.  Thanks

Another good choice is a used Adcom GFA-535. At 60w/side the 535 is very sweet sounding amp that does nothing wrong. These are built like a tank so used is OK. I had one for a backup until recently, a friend needed a good amp.
