Customizing iPad/Pod screens, dock, etc.?
« on: 15 May 2011, 03:26 pm »
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or this cannot be done, but I want to customize the screen, dock, and visible apps on my iPad and Touch, but am not sure exactly what I can do or how to go about it.  I do know how to move apps from one placee on a screen to another, and to other screens, but I don't seem to be able to do this with the dock.  I'd also like to delete some of the included apps that I'll never use -- such as the game center, or at least be able to hide them so they are not visible.

I've looked at the various manuals and such and see some references to being able to do some of these things via screens in iTunes, but don't seem to be able to find those either -- unless aain, I'm not understanding what they're telling me.

Also, I see mention of an enterprise deployment tool that allows all kinds of low-level customizations. Has anybody used this, and is it available to us mere mortals?

Any help/guidance appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

The level of customization with the Iphone, and by extensions I assume the IPAD and the Ipod touch, is limited.

If you hold your finger on the screen for a few seconds, the icons with start to tremble. This means that you can move the icons around and delete them if there is an "X" above the icon. If there is no "X," then the application is not able to be deleted from the Iphone.

If you want to move the icon to another page other then the first one; you can drag the icon to the right side of the screen, and after a brief pause it should shift over to another screen where you can drop it. I believe you get 8 or 9 total screens for all of your application icons.

To change the background, you need a picture to be loaded into your photos. Access the photo, and at the bottom left side of the picture, you will see what looks like a box with an arrow coming out of it. Touch that icon and it should say something to the effect of "use this picture as wallpaper."

Thanks, but I know how to move apps and such, but I'm blind so I don't see things like the X and other graphical things you're talking about.

Another person told me that the dock can be customized through the iTunes host interface in the apps section.

Nobody here has tried the enterprise deployment tool?  Looks like you can do much more with that.

Thanks,

Jim

Sorry I couldn't be of more help; this is the extent of my knowledge here as its as far as I have needed to venture for my Iphones.

If you learn of anything really exciting, Id be interested to know if you wouldn't mind.

On the iPad to remove an app from the dock, touch and hold the app in the dock you want to remove things will start to jiggle and drag it up to the desktop. To add click and hold app and drag to dock.
