Also, my speakers are an efficient (90db) 8ohm. And the n3's are near the same. Is it true that adding a resistor can get me more grunt from the amp? I understand it performs best with a harder load, and gives a throatier performance, bassier.

Positively love the thing :thumb: . I'm running now a pair of insignias until I can afford to full my n3 cabinets and even stock the amp is fantastic, magnificent, a dream.

The Astron is high current as is my JT supply. I can easily run 2 amps with my Jt or Astron without loosing anything.
do NOT push the amp past 30V it will ruin your day  :nono:

Ok. So leave it as is. Which supply do you consider high current? Does the Astron qualify or do I need something burlier? I'm not after huge wattage, it already gets very loud with just the stock supply, but I was hoping for sort of the ultimate experience with this amp. Most of everything.
The stock 24v/65w supply can deliver 2.7 amps of current by my spotty math, the 30v/130w supply can do 4.3 amps. Both your Astron and the JT Dynamics are capable of delivering 10 amps (300w/30v), so they would be considered high current. Someone else will have to answer if the amps can use a burlier supply.

The Astron make the Virtue sound like a $5000 dollar amp.

Can't help but get excited when you tell me that thing (points at Two.2) is going to increase performance dramatically even though it's already incredible.  :thumb:

It really smooths the sound out and takes away grain, and puts out some serious power.

You will have a  amplifier that would be real hard to top. :P

Now, with that said....
you can upgrade your sources and cables.(if need be)
Have fun and report back.

BTW, there were some Astron recalls, you may want to call them and give them your  SN# to check and see you don't have a stinker.
I did this and they were polite and helpful.

Yip, it's a high value supply.  We got a bunch of the ones with bad capacitors.  Their test regime was 30 seconds.  Hopefully they're doing 5 mins+ so they break on their watch not ours!

Yeah I read about that stuff but it was a while ago so I trust they've fixed it. The reports on its excellence as a ps was enough to make it my choice. I'll have batteries in a few weeks as well.

well, them and the rest of the party. Pretty excited for people to hear it.

I have two friends in some very excellent local bands coming over to listen to their cds the night after I get the Astron. I'm sure well be planting some Virtue seeds that night.

Thanks Reezie.  If they want to buy a TWO.x they better pull the trigger soon.  We have only a handful left to sell and then it will be months of waiting for the THREE to be produced - we're still working through kinks and I have not announced a ship date.

Like you, I was nuts about the Astron until the duds got into our vascular system.  You can buy it from 3rd parties and we'll send you that power cable for free + shipping if you get one.   However, it's a regulated supply which means it's running full power consumption all the time even when the amp is pulling 0.5A.  Audiophiles are used to having gear heat the house - perhaps someone more technical than me can explain the "hit" from the Astron supply.

Oh yeah Seth, these guys are in progressive bands and their cds are extremely well recorded. I know they will absolutely cream their shorts when they hear the Two.2, I'd put money on it. I guarantee they won't have heard it so good save for maybe the mastering studio had they been around for that.

And I'll hold a get together, party once my speaker upgrades are done, once I get batteries, once I've got subs, again when the n3's are built, etc. A lot of people will hear the truly astounding Virtue Two.2

I had one of the early Astrons that literally blew up in smoke.  When I told Seth, he just laughed.  What a guy!  I sent the unit back to Astron and they put in the right size cap, and it's been working great since.

That's fine, bit cantankerous like a Ferrari, right? (I'm not worried, mines brand new and I ordered it days ago).

I love that it's regulated and high current, big beefy supply. And I'll have batteries too. Best of both.

I was told the wrong size caps were only in the early production units, so I doubt you will have the problem with a new unit.

Wednesday  :thumb:

Guys im experiencing all this stuff for the first time. I've been around stereos, but never anything this good, and I am enjoying the ride. Few more months and I'll be decked out top to bottom with AC goodness. Well, then it will be time to start saving for a living room rig with GR's soon to come 8" servosub  V or something along those lines.

But anyway, yeah, first real gear.

So Jason's cable arrived and I must say compared to the stock power supply cable its thicker heft and construction is a step up.

I may have to check out Nirvana cabling. Although I am enjoying my cryo'd copper speaker cables from user Zmanastronomy.

What I need are some balanced XLR cables, specifically AES/EBU. Can you make me one of those? Might as well max out my ERC-2/XDA-1 while I wait for Virtue Dac. I'm running a plastic optical cable right now and it is a step down from the MacUltra Silver Coax I was using (those are now my interconnects into the TWO.2).
