Jolida FX10?
« on: 30 Apr 2011, 07:21 am »
There are a couple of dead threads on this amp from a year ago, posted as folks were buying them.  How did the amp turn out?  Comparisons to Jolida 102B, Miniwatt or Glow?

I haven't heard one myself but a buddy of mine heard it and thought it sounded great.  And it was driving some really nice speakers too.

I've considered getting one but am leaning towards building a different EL84 amp.

Yeah, it seems like it should have potential, and can't be beat for convenience.

I just find it suspicious that it's been around for a while but hardly anything has been written about it.  I had a friend who used to publish a popular magazine that did reviews.  He said that while he refrained from pumping up his advertiser's products in a falsely positive review, he would sometimes send back a crappy item and tell the manufacturer it would be better if he didn't write what he thought about it.  I always suspected that this is why audio reviews tended to come out as different levels of praise.

To be fair it's kind of a limited target they're shooting for.  It's a 10 watt amp so it's only going to be used with either really sensitive or really small bookshelf type speakers.  And it's meant to appeal to ipod owners who also like tube gear.

Most people aren't even aware there's still tube gear out there.

Jolida makes good sounding gear so it's probably not too shabby.

There's a few comments about it over on the tube circle - it's supposed to be really good for the money.

Heard it a few times at Jolida headquarters in Md. Both the original version and the upgraded (better caps and different volume control) don't remeber what the volume control difference exactly was, but it makes big difference suposedly. Not really an expensive upgrade either, think it was less than $100, new versions may include this revision, call Jolida if curious.

Really nice for the money. Bass and ulimate volume being limited. This is no BS, I was blown away by the upgraded version driving the Mbl mini monitors. Maybe because it worked at all :) Big stage, nice detail, focus and texture. Serious price mismatch. They handle the Nola monitors no problem either.

I have heard it playing a pair of Nola bookies but they were playing it way to loud for me to make any real opinion on how it really sounds.  It is a nice little piece though.  A friend of mine has heard it playing the same Nola's at a more respectable volume and he was very impressed with the sound.

Despite its a 10wpc integrated tube amp it sounds good for the money. Some people have overheating issues, but you can use a chill mat.

One of the best little amp for the money out there, you need very efficient speakers in order to make this amp really shine and stand out, I got mine modded as well and it sounds GREAT!  Also, changing the tubes will help~  for the money you can't beat it!  PERIOD!
