I own a pair of the first M5001 and have some hissing.
I can hear it from 2 meter away on my Dynaudio 360.
I have myself added dodd buffer, and I was hoping that it would take some of the hissing away.

One of them also gives out a 50hz hum a bit loud the first 5sec. after power up, and goes slowly down over the next 5 sec. And then barely possible to hear.

Can anybody let me know how yours M5001 are doing?

Can you check to see what other equipment is around?  50hz is usually from power lines. The buffers themselves do couple AC noise.  The ICEPower modules are very quiet so I'm really surprised you're hearing something.  I wish Gary Dodd were checking the boards -- he's done a lot of work on the ICEBlock and may be able to help.  Please try to email him directly through www.doddaudio.com.

Both of them are in the same outlet and only one humm's.
I tried changing the power cables around and it is the same.


I'm using rca input, but if I move the swiths to XLR (with out any input  on it) it's the same.

I love the sound of it alot - it sound like a million, just wish my minor things where ok.
Big upgrade to my Dynaudio Focus 360, and way better then all the stock icepower amp variants i tryed.

Okay, opened the amps up again.

I have followed dodd's guide, but realized that it do not say that one need to solder on both pcb side where the withe connector  is attached.
I have only soldered on the back, do I need to do both sides on them?

I have asked Gary, but he is busy moving to a new house, and if some one here could guide me, I could close up the amps again sooner

If the hissing was there before the buffer was added, it is not the buffer causing the noise.  It is coming from some other source. 

From the picture the PC Board holes look to be plated through.  You should not have to solder both sides as they are already connected by the plating.

Just make sure the solder job is clean on the opposite side of the PC Board for the connectors and that part should be fine.

Just some thoughts.

It was fine before adding the buffer.

Gary says it might be the tubes, but then it is both of them that is faulty from brand new 
Perhaps its just bad luck?

I just thought of measuring the resistance from side to side 


update: holes are connected trough pcb  , so I can role that out.

Mmm.... too bad Gary didn't put in that buffer!  Please wait until he gets settled and get some feedback from him.  It's possible that you may need to send him the little board to check out.

I guess they are one of the first ones - bought them from Jumo audio with out buffer installed, but with buffer kit on the side.

I'll wait on Gary - He wrote that he needed some time, and its fine, I'll wait.

Okay, Just replaced stock tubes with PSVANE 12AX7-T REFERENCE - finally 

The humming got worse, and it stated giving loud pops on power on with the old tubes - so it was about time.

With new tubes all my problems went away, and it just sounds better then ever

The humming got worse, and it stated giving loud pops on power on with the old tubes - so it was about time.

With new tubes all my problems went away, and it just sounds better then ever

I am using a PSVANE 12AU7 Reference in the tube buffer of my Sensation M451 and it sounds magnificent!  No hiss or hum at all.

Yes those PSVANE tubes are great for our Virtue amps !!!
