I just wanted to announce that Brian (VMPS), Alex (WyWires), and James (AMPZILLA) will have a Room at the The Home Entertainment Show to be held from June 3rd through the 5th at Newport Beach, this open to the public high-end consumer electronics event may be the largest of its type in the industry.

MORE INFO

This should be a spectacular show and we look forward to seeing many who couldn't make it to Vegas in January.

Take a look at the large number of exhibitors.  Should be fun.

Will post the Gear and System set up soon.

This is actually just a short few weeks away :o so make plans early.

This is being sponsored by Stereophile and TAS. Included will be a veritable cornucopia of entertainment including live Jazz, a classic hot rod show, a cigar show a wine tasting event. The list goes on and on. Bob Levi from the LA/Orange County Audio Society has done a fantastic job of pulling this together. I can't wait!

We haven't done a consumer show in some years, and I thought this would be an ideal opportunity for Socal audiophiles to hear a lot of top gear in a good environment.

The standard exhibit rooms are smallish, but adequate.  We'll show the RM30 ($3500pr) with and without the Dedicated Subwoofer ($999 with 500W amp).  Should be great!

I'd love to hear a RM30 system that was set up for single amp/passive XO or multi-amp digital XO.  Swap a few speaker cables to switch between the two.

That's worth the price of admission right there!

Will that be at one of the seminars or between acts at one of the jazz shows?

Harry e-mailed me that he has been working out, so I told him we can arm wrestle to see who buys lunch.

It will be in the VMPS/WyWires/AMPZILLA room of course.

Hmm...interesting.  You guys strayed away from the Ampzilla/Ambosia products for a while and now have gone back to them. :?

Not really.  Ampzilla has new versions of both the Ambrosia preamp and the 300W monoblocks, both called the Series II, and priced at $7500 for the preamp with full MC phono and remote, or the pair of 300W monoblocks.  They wanted to show their latest and greatest and most importantly, wanted to share the cost of the Newport booth.  I have had Ampzillas, Son of Ampzillas, and the Ambrosia in my home system since 2002, and GAS and Sumo products since 1975.

Please remember that the VMPS/Ampzilla booth at the Alexis Park won the "Best of CES for High End Audio" award in 2002 and 2003, so I am not inclined to abandon Mr. Bongiorno or his products.  We go back a long way.

Yes, as B, said "no straying", but that does not mean we won't take another sweet sounding thing around the block on occasion

I also have my Son of AMPZILLA and it rotates into my system regularly (as I am also a BRYSTON and NuFORCE dealer too I play musical amps. . .like musical chairs)

Both B, and I are still AMPZILLA dealers.

As well, I imagine James will be bringing some of his piano CD's to demo and sell.  Now to be honest, several years ago when he brought his first CD in and stuck it on the CD player every chance he got, I was not to thrilled.

The performance was remarkable, but the recording . . . well let's just say it wasn't audiophile grade.

Well ALL THAT has changed and James has two new CD's that are SPECTACULAR, especially the one with his COMBO.

And this past Jan in Vegas, it sounded so real over the RM50's that I couldn't believe it and I am a hard one to please on piano recording.  I can only think of two that I like:

1) James "BONGO" Bongiorno

2) David Fung on Yarlung Records

Thanks for the comments guys.

I always take notice when I read about others using JB's products, as I've been a fan since some of my first "high-end" equipment back in the '80's -- some Sumo gear.  Lots of other stuff has come and gone, but I still have the Sumo pieces.

I have in my current system a pair of Ampzilla Second Edition monoblocks and a First Edition Ambosia preamp -- very nice stuff!  Love the tone controls.

I chatted with JB about the Second Edition Ambrosia a while back and will probably make the upgrade at some point, particularly if I understood the differences correctly.  Here's what I remember him saying about the upgrades on the new version:

-No fan
-Lower level of "clicking" when accessing functions or changing volume
-Larger "steps" in volume when rotating volume knob
-??other changes in circuitry?? -- I seem to remember him saying something about this

I may not be remembering correctly or completely, so feel free to correct/clarify/add if I've got it wrong.  I'd certainly appreciate having a clear understanding of the differences between the two versions.

That's basically it.  Sonically the two versions are very close, cosmetically the new version is nicer and does not run so hot.
