Mark's front-ported HT2-TL's in dyed curly cherry

Mark wanted a pair of HT2-TL's, but needed to have them front-ported.  He did not really want to see the ports, so he asked if we could design "grills" to place over the ports as well.

He wanted curly cherry, but wanted them dyed to match a pair of SongTowers we did some time ago.

The flash on photograph I took of the pair really lit up the figuring in the wood.  So, in this photo, the speakers appear much lighter than they do in person.  But you can at least see how the port grills worked out.

Here is a close-up with colors that are a bit more accurate...

There was a bit of extra labor involved in developing the templates and routing the port grill area so the grills were inset in the front of the cabinet.  But I think they turned out quite nice.

Happy listening Mark!

Out of curiousity, why did he want them front ported?

Yes, they do look fantastic, as always!

He did not have much room behind the speakers.  And although you could easily place them closer to the wall than if they were standard rear-ported speakers, placing the terminus of the TL cabinet on the front would allow a little more flexibility in terms of placement close to the rear wall.

I don't normally like the looks of the front ported HT2-TL's, but I think they look great with the grills.

Very sharp looking loudspeaker, I really like the looks of this front ported setup and I'd love an opportunity to listen to them.

Congratulations Mark!  :thumb:

Wow - each picture of the wood finishes I see on a pair of Salk speakers looks exquisite.  You should make audio furniture to match

Agreed.  Frequently it seems some future owner comes up with an awesome, custom idea (front port covers, magnets in the rear to hold the grills while listening, etc).  I love it!

Congrats on your speakers, Mark, and welcome to the Salk family!

Very nice. I think the port sort of balances the look of the fronts and the cherry goes well with the copper looking plug in the woofs. Very nice indeed, but where's the Salk emblem? :no_see:
