I don't want flash to go away completely I just think websites that choose to do flash only are a bad thing.

Or is it Apple that is off the mark by not to supporting a de facto standard like flash?

Cheers,
Bernard

Nope, Apple is right. F#$% flash, it's worthless on portable devices. I have yet to see a single flash supporting smartphone or tablet that wasn't an awful unusable mess. I've tried it on the Galaxy tab and my bros android as well as a few others and it always slowed up the rendering of whatever site I was on. Also I don't need to know what my mortgage rate could be... Flash = annoying ads.

Flash never worked well on Linux, i've never been a happy user.   To this day it still crashes on mac osx with safari and firefox.  Since it's never really worked on the platforms I used, it's not something I've cared about for iOS.

html 5 is a standard.

True but even that will be years before being supported widely given how fast the general public updates their browsers. Last month ~60% of our site traffic was IE and of that 31% was IE 7 and below. :(

Sites very, I've seen firefox as high as 50% with IE at 30% and chrome taking 15% with safari and opera fighting over the last five.    IE has been trending downward over the last few years on my site traffic.   For awhile I figured chrome would overtake IE but percentages have been pretty flat for the last few months.

John, are those lifetime numbers?

I'd be curious to see those results broken down by year, or a graph by month, or something similar.  I'd guess that the distribution has changed substantially since AC started!

Safari edged out Firefox for us last month by about .5%, Safari was about 15.9% and FF about 15.45%. I was a little surprised, must me more folks going mobile.

No that was just the first few days of April. I'll do March 2011 and and older one to give a comparison.

Here's the full month of March in 2011:

Here's the full month of March five years ago in 2006 (I'm actually sort of amazed that I have the data going back that far):

No offense, but this is why 'defacto standards' don't work.

Quote
Hey, guess what? Adobe has found yet another serious security flaw in Flash. Surprised? Neither are we. And we can already hear the iOS fanboys warming up their commenting fingers. The vulnerability affects all platforms, including Android, though only attacks on Windows have been seen in the wild so far. Just like last month's exploit, this one is spreading via malicious .swf files embedded in Office documents, only this time it's Word instead of Excel being targeted (a hacker's gotta keep it fresh, after all). Once again Reader and Acrobat are also vulnerable, but attacks can be thwarted using Reader's Protected Mode. When exactly Adobe plans on plugging this hole is anyone's guess. Until then, might we suggest you become friends with a little browser extension called FlashBlock?
