It is curly maple. There are quite a few different types of figured wood. In maple the most common are birdseye, flame, curly, quilted, crotch..... Flame is often called tiger maple, pretty much like Pez which is identified by close regular stripes less than 3/8" in width. Curly is like flame, but the striping is less regular and broader.
