Another maple faced Uber is born...
« on: 4 Apr 2011, 04:07 pm »
Now that this UberBUSS is in my customers' system and up and running I thought I would post a couple of pictures:

Furutech FP-15A(G)-N1 outlets, a Furutech FI-33(G) 20A inlet and a 10ga power cable to make it all happen.

I love the look on curly maple.   :thumb:

I was gonna title the posting "Mutha's baby boy", but it's not really a baby  :D.  That is the last of the piece of maple that is on Mutha, sniff  :(

Living in a desert has its' disadvantages.  :(   I have some AAAA flame and guilted maple that is destined for some guitar tops... IF I ever get a chance to build another guitar.  I have just a little bit of figured mesquite that is way cool, too.  I'm thinking fingerboards for that stuff.

It would be really cool to walk through and be able to select great looking figured woods.  I need to talk to Randall, I think.  The battery box that he built for you is gorgeous.  I like working with woods, but he is a Master.

Is maple standard or an up-charge?  If up-charge, what's the cost?

Maple is an option and the cost is determined on an individual basis.  I hope to have this information on my website soon... Time... time....time...  :slap:  I'm dancing as fast as my old legs will allow.

Is that Tiger Stripe maple? It looks similar to the wood I used in my amp. I love it!

I've heard people call tiger stripe maple 'curly maple' before. The main difference is that this doesn't look curly, more like straight up and down stripes. I honestly doubt there's much of a difference if any.  :duh: who knows.

It is curly maple.  There are quite a few different types of figured wood.  In maple the most common are birdseye, flame, curly, quilted, crotch.....  Flame is often called tiger maple, pretty much like Pez which is identified by close regular stripes less than 3/8" in width.  Curly is like flame, but the striping is less regular and broader.  You know, the same only different  8)  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_maple  My favorite is quilted which looks a lot like puffy clouds.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quilt_maple

I have a several insane bookmatched guitar top blanks that are flame and and curly maple over 50 years old.  They are NFS - too rare and too expensive to give up.

Working with wood is meditative and I love doing it.  Wish I had more time to do it.  I have a guitar project that is calling (yelling, actually) my name.
