Skyline- A good old fashion Aliens invade Earth movie!!

I love sci-fi and I even like it when you need a master degree in Physics!! The movie "Skyline" was made around special effects and the guys who did effects for, AVATAR, Iron Man 2 and 300 gave a great good old sit back and watch Aliens invade the earth and what happens to a bunch of folks caught in the middle of it. I enjoyed it alot and have watched it quite a few times since it was released on Tuesday. Not a young childrens Alien movie so beware of them checking it out or being in the room. The guys from Scrubs is in it...I forget his name...anyway..its fun to watch and you don't need a degree!!

I watched Skyline yesterday as my wife had to go into work and I knew she would not care to see it. First, let me write that I am a fan of Si-Fi! To watch this movie and enjoy it you have to accept two facts:

1. Aliens may exist
2. They may not be friendly

The storyline is based on being awaken in the middle of the night to find the major city where you are living under attack by strange looking space ships. Once it is accepted that Aliens have attacked and are capturing people the rest of the movie is about the realism of trying to avoid being caught.

I thought the movie was well done. It was a quick watch as it did not drag-on and there were not too many of the over the top special effects (you know there had to be some). Anyway I will rate this one at 3.5 out of 5 stars. Definitely a good movie for the Si-Fi Fans.

My favorite movie of this genre is Mars Attacks! I think that the humor in the movie adds a twist to the same old story...

I'd say 3.5 also...phew..OK, I thought maybe I was loosing my sif-fi mojo--Bigfish- "Definitely a good movie for Sci-Fi Fans" +2 on that!
JohnR hop on a boat and a couple planes and I'll lend you my copy...LOL...Its a solid "Rent it" and a definite "Buy It" if your a sci-fi nut like I.

For those that have seen it or will see it--some trivia sorta- started out as an independent film was shot that way on a shoe string budget and folks started seeing pieces of it and the distribution offers came flooding in. The movie was shot at one of the producer or directors condo and condo highrise where they could only get total control of certain parts of the building so many scenes had to be done over because tenants would walk out into the hallways from their apartments etc. while they were filming etc.. if you decide to buy it watch the special feature where they talk about making it and winging it during many shots as far as set stuff and all, you'd never know as you watch.

I love sci-fi movies and this movie was decent except for the end.

Visuals were good, acting was okay, but the ending....

So I don't ruin it for other people, I won't say what happens, but I didn't like it.

I actually enjoyed this film, even though it was panned pretty harshly by critics. I found myself pretty engaged with it from start to finish, and I thought the special effects were pretty good.

...the ending was definitely a first!!
I didn't realize what was happening at first when the ships were hovering, I was diggin the special effects though and the fact that they did this movie on a shoe string budget.

I even did some internet searches afterwards to try and make sense of it. I read somewhere that the movie is suppose to have a sequel. I'm hoping the sequel pulls it together.

Also, I heard there are some legal issues with the people who made Battle for LA, which I havent seen yet.

Biggest load of crap I've seen in years:

Hokey acting and storyline, they even copied the aliens probes seeking out humans from War Of The Worlds. A compete waste of 90 minutes......

question, why would you want to get on a boat being the only thing moving and nowhere to run or hide when the alien ship comes after you.

Kind of dating myself here, but this movie was very similar to Krull. Special effects cannot overcome a bad script, poor acting and faulty continuity. Millions were spent on Krull's early tech special effects and evidently nothing for a decent script and good direction. Skyline kept me doing the "Which is worse" comparison throughout the entire movie. Sequel? Likely wouldn't waste more of my time.

I'll probably give it a spin, as I am a big fan of the genre as well.

I'll offer up another title I did see recently and really enjoyed, "Monsters". Imho, a well done, slow unfolding suspenseful story without overblown graphical violence, or relying on special effects to carry the show.

Another movie this spring with the exact same theme, Battle: Los Angeles. Mean aliens in weird ships invade LA. I personally agree that LA does need to be invaded by mean aliens, but I was attracted to this movie because the sound effects of the alien weapons firing in the movie trailer was a low freq square wave that sounded AWESOME. I so wanted to hear that sound followed by a 10 second long, 10kW explosion. But alas, I wimped out and never found the time to get over there before it was gonzo. My sub at home is pretty good, so lets hope it gives the same thrill at home.

Did anyone see Battle:LA? Tell me if it sucked, I don't care I'm only interested in hearing those lasers.
