HAHA I'm stealing this line for my own personal motto:

Pez- proud to be 'not a very consistent "standard" for the absence of excellence.'

The advantages of active speakers is undeniably and huge: huge dynamics, flat frequency response, and giant/deep bass.  Small two-way standmounts become all you need (and I believe that deep/full bass is fundamental).

About 10 years ago I auditioned Paradigm Studio 20 ($800/pair small two-way standmounts) versus their Active 20 ($1,600/pair similar design with one channel of amplification per driver).  No comparison, an absolute audio epiphany for me.  The Active 20 matched frequency range with their Studio 80 ($1,600/pair floorstanders), but had better frequency response and dynamics and of course amps were included (for the price of stands).

BTW this is one of "secrets" of how/why single driver speakers can do so well (active by default).
