B100/Bookshelf Speaker Combination
« on: 19 Mar 2011, 12:42 pm »
Would anyone have any recommendations or experience for a bookshelf style/size speaker system that would work nicely with a future B100 purchase? Height limitations would be up to a maximum of 30 inches and a budget of no more than $5K for new speakers. I keep thinking of the JBL 800’s but they are over budget and no longer in production. I would like to start researching speaker systems for Mrs. Laundrew’s future audio system. As always, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi Laundrew

If you want i can send you my Mission m71s to try out. They had a stereophile class b (could have been A too) rating and have won product of the year awards in their cost class in other publications. They are good and were about $350 new.

If you want to spend more i would probably look at some pmc bookshelf speakers.

I'm running a B100 DA with PMC DB2i's and everything sounds wonderful. Same sweet tweeter as higher models and remarkable bass for their size.

Yes, I'm partial, but I bought them because I like them -- rather than liking them just because I bought them.

I can second the pmc db1i recommendation.  I've owned them and they are superb speaker for a small space.  Very few better them under 3k.

Another possibility is Dynaudio.  I'm a dyn owner and I think they are a very nice mate to any Bryston gear.  The contours S1.4 is well under your budget and are truly amazing speakers.
