Sapphire III problem!
« on: 18 Mar 2011, 11:18 pm »
I've got a lovely pair of Sapphire IIIs I've had for many years and something has happened to one of them, it seems the mid/bass speaker has just stopped working as far as I can tell.
I tried to open the cabinet to see if by some odd chance something had come loose but I couldn't even get it open :-) I guess I'm just looking for some advice, I hate to lose my Sapphires but have no idea how to go about fixing them, especially since I can't even figure out how to open the enclosure!  :D

John, you should be able to simply remove the screws that hold the woofer in, and carefully pull the woofer out.

I will give it another try to open it.  What you suspect in a case like this where there is thin sound from the tweeter and nothing from the mid?

Tweeters by themselves always sound "thin", so that is probably okay. It could be a connection or the woofer could have failed. I believe those woofers can still be rebuilt. Check with Meniscus or Madisound on that.
