Got the upgrade bug  :green:

How about some recommendations, here's the rest of my gear:

Manley Mahi Mahi monoblocks
Philly Audio Blue 7 preamp
RAM Modified Shanling CD-t100
REL Strata III subwoofer

I listen to all sorts of music, my current favorites are acoustical blues, bluegrass and progressive rock

Super V seems like the most appropriate step up :)

I went from these:

OB5 MTM section with 15" "Augie" OB Bass Driver

To a pair of these:

V-1

And have never looked back.  True, my OB5 was not per Danny's design since I used the OB woofer but I believe it is still a reasonable comparison.

The V-1 is an outstanding speaker IMO.

edit: This is not a criticism of the OB5, I loved my modified pair.  However the dynamics and effortless bass of the V-1 really won me over.

Best,
Ed

In just a short time frame the V-1s morphed into the Super V

Ed a few others and myself are V-1 owners, original design with rear firing tweeters, we jumped onthe boat right away.
I havnt heard the Super V or the V-2 but if the V-1 is any indication they are outstanding.
If memory serves the V2 is about $1100 the V-1 about $2000 and the Super about $2600.....is that correct?
If so then I would let budget decide.......if you have the means I would go the Super route.

You can vary the looks as well....the great thing about DIY....

Heres mine.....exactly the same as Eds pictured above.....just a different take on side panels and finish.

I agree with everything Perry has said above with one caveat, Perry was the ultra early adopter in that the V-1 still had the rear firing tweeter.  When I purchased mine (I actually test drove the coaxials for a while before purchasing the bass section) the rear firing tweeter was included, however Danny made the modification to the compresson tweeter (cutting out the rear of the tweeter housing) removed the rear tweeter and modified the crossover prior to my actual build, I made the change so my V-1 does not have the rear firing tweeter.  Today both the V-1 and Super-V kits utilize the ompression tweeter in a dipolar alignment, here is a shot of the rear of mine:

I managed to convince Danny to let me get a pair of V1 tweeters to install in my V2's.  I might be the only person around with "fully OB" V2's.  The improvement was not subtle, the V1 OB tweeters are outstanding.  But, if you have the space (I don't), I think the V1's or the Super V's are the way to go - the bass is absolutely incredible on them.  The V2's aren't a slouch in the bass, but they simply aren't in the same class, IMO.

Hey Ed....thought yours had the rear firing tweet as well....now that I think about it I believe
it is Bruce, also from Alberta, that has the rear.

By the way Ed, thats the first time I've seen your X-over cover.......excellent work!! looks stunning!

I have been thinking that I should get Danny to send me the parts to modify mine....maybe this summer if I have the time........He could send me some No-Rez with the shipment as well.

Thanks Perry.  I am still learning the veneering end but I thought the covers turned out pretty well.

I think the only person to hear both the seperate rear firing tweeter and the modified compression tweeter in a complete speaker is Danny so I can't offer anything useful on that front, of course he did continue with the evolution of the speaker so I would say he felt that the modified compression tweeter was an improvement.

Best,
Ed

The Super-V's here have the modified compression tweeter for open baffle and they sound really good!   :thumb:

Before moving on to another speaker have you maximized the potential of those OB-5's?  As in Sonicaps with Platinum bypasses, mills resistors, No Rez, etc?

After that I would recommend building a servo sub or 2.

Proper room treatment will also help get the best out of what you have.  I recommend ATS Acoustics.
