Need some PC speakers.

Have been living away from home on a work project out of country. Only have my external HD, a PC and music. Looking for good-great sounding 2.0 or 2.1 speaker combo. All comments welcome, but if you have one you've been listening to and really like, please share your feedback. Looking to spend no more than $160, I know it's cheap but I may not be able to send these back home when I am done, and if I do, I don't want to spend more than 1/3 of price to have them shipped.

Your two cents?....

I just sold a pair of Audioengine A5 speakers. These are fantastic for computer or ipod listening. May be a bit over your price but the A2 is supposed to sound similar. Probably couldn't go wrong with either.
Don't know where you are but stay safe.

Believe it or not...these are not bad.

Cheap...good size...and since their Bose....you'd be able to sell them to someone before you leave.

As mentioned...I do think the Audioengine speakers are very good...having heard them a few times before. :thumb:

A little more than you want to spend, but you won't have to leave it behind. The FOXL. 30 day trial, if its not for you.

I bought these for my son and they sound great (don't know how much you can expect from  speakers 20 inches away sitting on a desktop with a monitor in the middle):

I think it would be worth it to spend a little more and get the Audio Engine A2. I own a pair and think they are fantastic. An outstanding value in Hi-Fi IMO.

Don't know where you're located as far as shipping, but you can get 10% off of the $199 A2s at Audioengine.com with coupon code COVERTEN (= $179.10).  Of course, if you were in the US it would include free shipping.

Are these things really worth a damn?  I'd like something decent enough to listen to music at work and need a low profile...  they'd probably clash with my formal mahogany L desk, but its a nice price..

I've had M-Audio Studiophile DX-4 active monitors for a long time, and think they are a great bargain for about $250.  Quite a bit larger than the avg desk speaker, with hefty cabinets & a 4" woofer + tweet.

They sound great & image well. I often run my Imod through 'em, for a really simple set up.

I think i bought them at a Guitar Center.

How about the Dayton Audio T-Amp and B652 Speaker Bundle from Parts Express...

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-650

Recently recommended it to a friend for use with a laptop and he's ecstatic about the combination. If the price is too low  you could pair those speakers with one of the more powerful T-amps available at PE.

I'd go with Audioengine speakers as well.

I have listened to this model:

they are outstanding.

Looks nice but for the OP, the overseas electrical voltage and their plugs are different.

According to the PE website details on this amp:

The Dayton DTA-1 T-amp can run off of 8 AA batteries for total portability, or the included switching power supply (with quick-release US and European style plugs).

Even so, I'd check with them first to make sure it's compatible with your voltage.

I picked up some AudioEngine speakers for my office last year and ended up liking them so much I brought them home. I use them for my tv watching when I'm not in the theater room and they are reallly, really good for the money. Even if they weren't powered, I'd still recommend them.  :thumb:

Mix things up a little from the usual fare:

I've heard good things about these. More than just a pretty face:

and these

I know they're Kipsch but these get constant high marks. I have a friend who has them and they sound pretty darned good and can rock out fairly loud.

I have listened to some Polk audio speakers, they are pretty good for the price, but you need to have a receiver.

I'd go with the Klipsch speakers as well. I owned a pair before upgrading to my current setup.
