Well, then I will stick to small laptops until wi-fi is more universally accessable. Data Plans are too pricey for how often I NEED to use them. Darrellwww.mach2music.com
You can buy a number of wireless routers (b/g/n) for around $35 to use at your residence. Clearly cheaper than paying ATT and Verizon for a 3g dataplan. Also unless your laptops are pre-historic, you can add freedom to you laptops with a wifi router.
Isn't one option to buy an Airport Express - plug it into the ethernet and create your own mini-wireless network?
I like that idea, your IT guys on the otherhand....
I'm wondering if Darrel is referring to lack of wi-fi at work? If not, the best recent upgrade to my own home network was replacing older Airport Extreme with TimeCapsule - our wireless performance improved dramatically, and by trading in the old router, I was able to acquire a new ATV streamer for $20. Now that's a nifty toy - even if you don't buy content from iTunes. Depending on the structure of your local TV cable provider's movie / TV channel plans and PPV rates, the (still) $8/mo Netflix can be the best bang for buck portion of your whole subscription budget. Our current bundle for phone/internet/HDTV to 2 PVRs (more channels than we can really ever watch/record) is approx $200/monthwhich in a round-about way brings me to the question - does(will) the iPad2(3) stream the same degree of content via Airtunes?
I have never been a fan of the airport extreme. Could give us a little info on the trade in and not to be totally ignorant but is this streamer you speak of?
From my corporate days I seem to remember that most IT guys are up to their asses dealing with Windoze issues, and wouldn't notice a little AE sticking out of an outlet - it looks just like an Apple power supply
