Shuguang Black Treasures vs. Shuguang Pavane Reference

So I'm noticing the Shuguang Pavane series of tubes is expanding to overlap tubes which they already produce in their 'black treasure series'.  Specifically, the 300B, 6SN7, el34, and KT88s have caught my attention.

I realize both are supposed to be their higher end products, but I'm just curious--in the case of redundancy, which is supposed to be their 'flag ship' tube?

Fred, where have you seen this? I don't find it on Grant Fidelity's site.

You can sneak a peak at them on the new new Shuguang P-SET 845 monoblocks:  http://grantfidelity.com/site/shuguang_psvane_845T_SET_monoblocks

Thats got the new 300B-T and the CV-181-T along with the 845-T which we already knew about/

Here is what seems to be a list of the additional Pavanes:  http://psvanetube.com/wordpress/

I think this paragraph (on the page linked above) states pretty clearly that the Psvanes and the Treasures have separate tubes in each line, with no overlap:

"The Pavane T-series now include the following models: 845, 805, 211, 12AX7, 12AU7, 12AT7 and EL84. They are great compliment to the hugely successful Treasure series which includes the common EL34, KT88, KT66, 300B, 2A3 and 6SN7."

It is a very clear statement, but this is also a pretty clear picture:

I bet they will simply merge into a single "Black Tube/Psvane" line.  The black tube look is just plain sexy, and makes you feel like you are getting a lot for your money (which IMO, you are).

In the amp description it states that the Pavane 300B and CV181s are only available, as of now, with these mono-blocks.

You're probably right, Tyson, about their merging the lines.

You think they'd correct the misspelling of the brand name if they are pulling all the premium tubes under it. How hard can that be?

I think they kinda have to run with Psvane now...  I mean, silk screen mis-label on first batch of tubes is one thing, but they've run with this name for their statement amplifier as well.

Also, I don't know if there can be a merging of the lines.  Wasn't the Pavane line something special that Grant worked up with them and have exclusive distribution of, while numerous places distribute the Black Treasures?

Now I'm wondering . . . .    How many ways can you dress up the same tube?

The black tube look is just plain sexy, and makes you feel like you are getting a lot for your money

I don't know. After I bought a pair of EML 300Bs I felt like I spent way too much on my Black Treasures.

I like my BT 300Bs just fine mind you. Yes, they are nice tubes. I just don't know if they are worth the money that I laid out for them, especially the A grade price that I paid for them. They sound very similar to the less expensive Valve Art 300Bs, but much better controlled especially when they are pushed a little bit. The VAs have a little too much harmonic ringing going on and they are a little more elastic sounding compared to the BT, but they both have the same house sound. Not too surprising I guess, since they look like they come from the same place.

The EML regular solid plate 300B is a whole different tube altogether. It is much more robust both sonically and physically. Pull a pair of those bad boys outa the box and then you will feel like you got your money's worth. It's my favorite 300B so far, but I haven't tried them all........ yet! :thumb:

I have BT 300Bs also, they kick ass on Sophia and SED, that's for sure. I got them on 4th of July special, I felt the value was good. But nie to know other brands are stepping up. There was a thread elsewhere on AC mentioning some other 6sn7s that sounded nicer than the BT CV-181s, hard to imagine, but worth a look, especially if cheaper too.  I have a feeling that the EMLs are not cheaper than the BT 300Bs?

Shuguang makes a lot of private label tubes. I can't believe they misspelled it and then refused to fix it.  Who doesn't proof their production artwork? How much could a new screen cost? So now we have yet another unpronouncable brand name in high end audio. P*ssvane?

I haven't heard any other 300b tubes, but the BT EL 34 driving the BT 300b with the Pavane 12AX7 in front, the music coming out the Druids is up there with best amp and speaker combo I've ever heard.  We who have been been blessed by the audio gods ought to pity those poor buggers stuck with a lesser tube or SS.

richidoo,

I paid $473 for my EML 300Bs. They come tested and matched with a 1 year warrantee. No cherry picking required.  I paid over $600 for my BT "A grade" from GF , but  I think they are only charging  $510 now. ( Only... :green:) They are both fine choices, I just like the EMLs a lot better in my amp driven by 6SN7.

Hey, what a great problem to have : Too many choices for buying new tubes. We are a lucky bunch!
