Yes, Thief is another really great one. Directed by Michael Mann of The Insider, Heat and Miami Vice fame.

Getting back to Cape Fear, I don't recall being more tense during any scene in my film-going history (except for the entire two hours of the original Alien when it came out in 1979) than during the famous high school stage encounter between Robert DeNiro and Julliette Lewis. Incredible bit of film there...

The rape scene in Cape Fear went too far - it was far more disturbing than entertaining.  I guess the same thing could be said about A Clockwork Orange.  Why do people need to be exposed to shit like this?  Of what benefit are explicit in your face gratuitous torture and rape scenes?  IMO the implication is enough and anything more is pandering to the dark side of human nature.

I think it's quite the opposite of pandering because no reasonable person should want to see that happen. Rape is a disturbing concept, and it needs to be cast in as horrendous a light as possible. If rape is just implied, the emotional impact on the viewer is lost or brushed aside. When you have statistics like: "more than a quarter (26%) of those asked said that they thought a women was partially or totally responsible for being raped if she was wearing sexy or revealing clothing" (from amnesty.org.uk), the accurate portrayal of rape is necessary to increase awareness.

So I just watched the beginning of the original Scream movie, as a warm up for the upcomming Scream 4. The first 20 minutes of this movie is my favorite tension inducing segments in the movies  :o :thumb:. Everyone can relate to it, being alone in a remote location..... so it easily draws you in.

The rumors are that they are looking to top it in Scream 4, so we shall see....
