I no longer have the rogue: but I am now using those very same pavanes in my new 300b amp. I personally have found that I can adjust some parameters in my system - namely placement and get a very good sound from the Treasure/Pavane combination. I agree that they can be a forward tube in the midrange but I feel that zu's handle the forwardness well and I think it is a fairly good synergy. I should also note that my room is fairly large and I also sit back a ways from my speakers so forwardness doesn't seem to effect me as much as say a close listening position would. I would really call my system quite neutral right now. Only certain sounds show signs of forwardness and this is in a natural way - ie guitar feedback. My system changes a lot from each recording. There is nothing forward about these pavane tubes on a Mahler SACD but feed it a little ok computer and you may get some forwardness in the sonic groans.

Personally, I find them very engaging and especially extended in the frequencies also they are extremely transparent and detailed. I suppose it comes down to rooms, systems, and taste.

Interesting to read someone else with less than flattering impressions of the Psvanes.  I'm experiencing a love/hate relationship with my own (12au7/845t).  Toying with going back to 845Bs and kicking myself a bit for selling my Siemens Silverplate 12au7s.  They just seem to come up a little short for me in terms of being emotionally engaging.

I almost put my Mullards up for sale, but I hesitated and damn glad I did. The mullards just brought me into the music. The Psvanes will be for sale shortly on Audiogon/AC.

Yup.  I can't wait to get my 845Bs and see how the 'downgrade' suits me.  I'm sure I could balance other components to achieve a good synergy with them, but its easier to just go with what I knew I enjoyed as I'm very happy with most of the rest of my system.

As Gopher knows, I have been running the Psvane 845's in my Mastersound amp; the amp came with some 'generic' labeled 845s (I imagine they are the stock Shuguang's, but certainly don't look like the 845B's, so I think they are just the "845's"---I received the Psvane's shortly thereafter and they were a nice improvement over the stock 845's that came in my amp.  I've done lots of reading about 845's since then, and the descriptions of the 845B's interest me enough that I may spring for a pair to try--I just want to be sure that the 'generic' 845's that I already have aren't 845B's.  Do all the 845B's have the 'copper' colored base?

Also, I used Psvane 12AX7's in my previous amp and was really impressed; my Mastersound 845 uses a pair of 12AU7's--I haven't found the Psvane 12AU7's to do too much for me in this amp, the sound is kind of boring.  I'm much preferring other options, like CBS 5814's, Amperex 7316's and Mullard long plate 12AU7's in this amp.

You can tell the standard 845 from the 845B by the mica spacers.  The standard 845 has them at the top of the plate structure.  The 845B does not have the spacers and has much heavier supports up the sides of the plates.

AC,

Sometimes I dig what I'm hearing with the 845Ts, sometimes I'm left cold and bored--honestly its more so the later than the former.  They aren't bad by any means, but I enjoyed listening more the way things were previously.  Sometimes better performance doesn't equate to more enjoyment.  For me I care more about the feeling then the audiophile adjectives.

Mail man has come and gone from my office another day without my 845Bs...  I wish domestic prices could come close to buying direct from China.

Got home and confirmed that my 'back-up' tubes are the plain Shuggy 845's.  Seriously considering getting some 845B's.
