Bourns Pot - need help wiring.
« on: 12 Feb 2011, 12:43 am »
Trying to determine which of the j hooks are input, output and ground. Am hooking up to a Pass B1.
Thanks for any help. (I haven't yet found out googling, but still trying).

It should be 1-2-3, in-out-gd... that's the way I'd wire it.  Otherwise, it will be the opposite.  Give it a try, it should work.  Let us know.

Are you wiring the B1 for one or two inputs/outputs?  If just one set, make sure to wire a jumper for the correct pair.  Good luck.

Thanks roymail, did some more googly mooglying and from a similar Bourns application sheet looks like 1=ground, 2=output, 3=input. J hooks are tarnished, will clean em and solder tomorrow if can get a chance.
I'm hooking it up with 1 output and 2 inputs. Drilled for 2 outs and 4 ins for later maybe.

Let us know how you like the B1.  Are you using standard or upgraded parts?  What amp will it be driving?  Do you still use the Virtue amp?

Building it standard parts as on Wushuliu's bom in the thread here. But with 10uF Jantzen crosscaps and North Creek 1uF Harmony caps because had them around. Also have .1uF Gen II Sonicaps for bipassing. Want to try it pretty straight, then maybe roll caps for pleasing distortion syndrome...or not. Interested in battery ps too.
Currently have a classdaudio cda254. No more Virtue amp, but liked it. Have been considering Hifimediy or Arjen's  TK2050 amp. But my big winter project is an Ampslab LM60. Since it took me 6+ weeks to do the 6 hour B1 project, hard telling how the LM60 will go, always trying to make time for it, very interested in it's sonics...lateral mosfet thingy's.

I like to know how well the B1 drives the CDA 254 since it has such low input impedance.  Look forward to your impressions.

Could you please compare the CDA to the Virtue Amp?
Thank you.

Wish i had them together to compare, it's been awhile since had the Virtue. I used it with a powered sub and different speakers too. Using cda254 for full range 12" 3 way. But to say something - cda is clean but not edgy, and has more power. It with the B1 I can use the full range of the volume control, which  always wanted to be able to do. The Virtue more "musical" and emotionally enjoyable. I expect with ps choices could have enough power for many speakers. Not sure how wide of a difference there is without a side by side comparison.
