Q for James:On the back of my 28's we have one indicator led that is green.
Then on the other 28 she's orange WTF,I wonder is something up or do the rear indicators come in different colours. She sounds fine.
No,it's not the front where they do the red orange green.
Any idea James,Thanks ..

Hi,

Just indicates the voltage - red means your under - green OK - orange a little over.

I just powered her down and powered her back up again(GREEN FOR GO :thumb:)
Still I wonder why she did that, maybe 60amps in reserve  isn't enough power :o .
Or perhaps she wants a new transformer and caps, soon my dear soon.

We got rid of them due to confusion in the marketplace.

IMHO confusion is better eliminated through a properly written manual and/or stickers, not by removing features.

My confused wife was 'riding the brakes', the proper cure was to educate her on how to correctly use it, and not the removal of the brake pedal.

Here we go with the glass half empty attitude. Hey you try things - they don't work out - you make changes.

This still doesn't explain your lousy choice in power conditioning.   :icon_lol:

How about putting it like this:

"As our 20 years warranty may attest, here at Bryston we are committed to making the most reliable analog audio products in the world. In this respect, we decided to simplify the design of our 28B amplifier by eliminating a small circuit that is seldom used in practice - a LED indicator of voltage of mains power on the back of the unit. Since this circuit would be useful only in diagnostic circumstances, when an external measurement instrument will be used anyway for checking the mains power characteristics, we decided that the omission of this circuit, while improving the reliability of the 28B by eliminating a potential point of failure, would not produce any inconvenience to the end user or field technician".

If you're looking to hire a PR person I'm available  :green:

Theory #1) Why one amp's overvoltage might go on:
They were turned on in sequence, and the second one was turned on at just the right moment when a (tiny) surge came down the line from the first one turned on stabilizing. Thus the light turned yellow. The light stays yellow even though the momentary condition passed. Turning it off reset the LED and cicuit, thus when it was turned back on it was green. This is my theory.
Perhaps once in a few hundred turn ons, one might encounter this phenomenon.

Yes we thought it would be a nice feature and it even had a safety aspect to it where it would not turn on if the wrong voltage was applied. It also had an issue with having to engage the circuit breaker before you plugged it into the wall or it would not start.

It just became a problem for most of our customers and really did not work out as we hoped- lesson learned :duh:

I do power them up close together(perhaps not now)as I like that sound the softstart gives letting the
power thru both 28's at the same time, where's the wife  when I need her.
i'll probably just do one at a time just cause.
Those led's give a nice romantic glow in the back for an intimate evening with my 28s.
I'd better go do something.............................. ...

My power up ritual.

Pre midnight operation…

1.   Esoteric “on.”
2.   BP 26 “on.”
3.   Left amplifier “on,” smirks in a-n-t-i-c-i-p-a-t-i-o-n.
4.   Select CD to enhance and personify current level of dark mood.
5.   Right amplifier “on.”
6.   Place CD in said Esoteric, wait for load up.
7.   Press play.
8.   Sit down, enjoy.

Post midnight operation…

1.    Advise Mrs. Laundrew “not to wait up.“
2.    Select desired incense, light said incense.
3.    Light candles on gargoyle wall sconces.
4.    Light candle on gargoyle desk candle holder.
5.    Esoteric “on.”
6.    BP 26 “on.”
7.    Left amplifier “on.”
8.    Select CD to enhance and personify current level of dark mood.
9.    Right amplifier ’on.”
10.   Place CD in said Esoteric, wait for load up.
11.   Turn off all lights in basement, close door.
12.   Sit down, remote control “play.”
13.   Closes eyes, awash in a sea of gothic music, voices slowly fade away…
