Thanks inglisd! I was able to SSH into my BDP-3 and poke around.

The directory where the music on my internally-mounted SSD is /media/Music. Fortunately, this directory is readable and writable by all, so we are good to move/add/copy files in and out.

If you insert a flash drive on one of the external ports it will show up as "/media/Samsung-USB" or something similar based on the flash drive manufacturer. I ran a USB3 extension cable from one of the rear USB3 ports to get easy access to USB3. The two ports on the front of the BDP-3 are only USB2 and too slow to transfer files.

If a user has some experience with the linux command line, moving files on/off the flash drive to the internal SSD is easy.

I backed up all the files on the internal SSD to another drive via rsync in case the internal drive goes bad or the BDP-3 stops working. I'll post more on that later.

Remember to unmount the flash drive via the MM system interface. We can't mount/unmount anything without root account access, and we don't know that (yet).

Hi all,
Will replace my Bdp-1 with a Bdp-3, is there a way to copy my playlist from the 1 to the Bdp-3. Thanks

I have the BDP-1 and BDA-1 combo and was wondering if the BDP-1 can be used as a USB/SPDIF converter?  Maybe I am crazy but seems I read an article one time where someone was using it that way.  I ask because I want to to play Tidal via my PC rather than using the manic moose interface through the BDP-1.  I currently have my PC directly connected to the BDA's USB input, but of course this way it's limited to 44.1 and 48kHz data.  Is there a way to send the signal from the PC's USB to the BDP-1 and then to the BDA (by coax or AES) to utilize the resolution support up to 192k on the BDA-1?  Or will I just need to look into an a separate DAC/SPDIF converter?  Thanks!

Hi!

I do not think that is possible. With custom software for the BDP-1, perhaps, but it is questionable how reliable it would be or if it would even work.

The most elegant way to go around ait is to use a USB-S/PDIF convertor like you suggested.

Though not asynchronous, the USB interface on the BDA-1 is rather good so don't  expect major improvements, especially with streaming services.

Cheers - Antun

Hi and thanks to James and Chris.

Thanks for setting up this Thread.
A good place for legacy product users to share information.   The bryston gear just keeps on going and going doing what it should and given that ... this forum is a good place for users to share experiences.

I have a BDP-3 and I'm trying to compare USB and SPDIF output to my Benchmark DAC3.  I have both devices enabled as shown below, but I can only get sound from the SPDIF connection if I unplug the USB cable and enable SPDIF only.  I've tried powering down both units, unplugging the BDP-3, but no luck.  Is it possible to get output from both the USB and SPDIF at the same time?

Or, does anyone have strong opinions for USB vs SPDIF?  Thanks for any help!

Works on mine with the same settings, as long as you’re playing a rate compatible with spdif. I tested with a regular 44k file.

I'm trying to play a compatible file.  SPDIF plays fine with the USB detached up to 192kHz on the Benchmark DAC.  Could it matter which BDP-3 USB port I use?

Hi Folks - a place to ask and answer more technical and operational based questions on the BDP-1 Digital Player

james

Back to the dongle question.

I have a BDP-1, replaced by a BR20, that I would like to move to another system. That is inaccessible for wired Ethernet.

There are now many WIFI to Ethernet adapters.

Will they work with a BDP-1?

Thanks

inglisd

any wifi extender with an ethernet port that you then wire to the BDP should work
as long as your main router and the extender can establish a good wireless connection.
Buy one on amazon and if it doesn't work return it.

Heed help. I have 2 BDP-1 units. One works fine with either of my 2 hard drives. The other used to work the same but now it only partially loads and then won’t continue. When I go into the connected drives section and hit update it says: cannot create file directory. USB thumb drives seem to work.
Thank you
Marc

Hi

I've got the following error code coming up on my BDP-2

I've looked at the BDP error codes in the support paged and, insofar as I am able, have to follow the possible fixes. I don't have a Bryston DAC so am unable to test whether the DAC is receiving a lock (apologies if I am mangling the correct technical terms). That leaves reimaging the sd card.

I've tried the following links for getting hold of an image but they don't seem to exist

Any ideas what I can do next?

Thanks

Mike

try changing the battery, I had the same error, switching out the battery solved the problem.

If that doesn't work there are some useful links here including the x86 download:

Thanks to all of you for your advice. It's very much appreciated. Also the speed of James' and Adam's replies. Awesome community.

One suggestion I found elsewhere (ChatGPT) was to unplug the BDP-2 and leave it off for several hours. As I was about to head off for the night I thought I'd give it a try - nothing to lose. It worked. No idea why - however, I'll take it as a win.

Best

Mike
