Hi

Ok since  i just ordered a bdp1 I am really curious if there is any difference in sound between the bdp1 and bda in xlr?  I am asking for differences due to length in xlr.

Well we all know 'length matters' :)

What about width?  Does width matter?  :)

Great idea for a thread, doesn't seem to have started off to seriously at the moment though :D

I've got a quick technical question regarding the AES-EBU connection.

I've just ordered the Chord AES-EBU cable but want to compare it directly to my current S/Pdif cable to see if it offers any improvements, questions :-

Is it OK to leave both connected at the same time?

Does the BDP output at both terminals at the same time?

Will having both connected affect sound quality in anyway?

Cheers.

Hi Vipers,

No problem with both connected at the same time.

I sent e-mail request for upgrade.
What improvements are there with the new version?
Improved waiting times?

No real changes we just try to improve the built in software load times (not USB load times) when booting up and get rid of code we do not feel we need and try to make it more stable.

Hi James

Question regarding BDA-1;

Could all the RCA connectors be substituted with BNC connectors ?

Yes but we would have to make it custom.

I'll throw in a couple of things I've learned from James, others on the forum or through trial and error.

Hard Drive File types:
FAT32 - this is an old format that doesn't work well on larger drives but most thumb drives still come formatted using it.  For now it is the only format that allows you to copy files from a PC or NAS over your network to a drive while it is connected to the BDP.
NTFS - most HDs come in this format.  It works great with the BDP but you have to disconnect your HD and connect it to a PC to add music.  For now you do not have the ability to copy files to a drive formatted in NTFS while it is connected to the BDP.
exFAT - a newer version of FAT32. It doesn't work with the BDP.  No big loss.  No one is using it anyway.

I have a larger NTFS HD preloaded with most of my library and a FAT32 thumb drive attached to my BDP. The NTFS HD remains pretty static.  When I get new music I rip or copy it to a NAS and then to the thumb drive.  Obviously I will move music from the thumb to the HD.  This seems like a pretty good way to feed the BDP-1.

^^^^

The USB formating is interesting, I have just bought two pendrives a 128GB and 64GB to start putting my music on and under Windows 7 you only have the options of NTFS and exFAT. I would really like the option to push and pull files from the drive. James will exFAT become supported or the ability to push to NTFS?

Has anyone experimented with using a utility to force FAT32 onto a larger drive?

Cheers

"exFAT is a proprietary, patent-pending file system suited especially for USB flash drives, introduced by Microsoft"

"Microsoft has not released the official exFAT file specification, and a license from Microsoft is required in order to make and distribute exFAT implementations"

Anyone here thinks that it makes sense to pay a license in order to use a format with no official specification?

If I use my iPod touch to control the BDP-1 through the interface, will it do all the same functions as the Bryston remote will? If so, great, if not, what will both the Touch and Bryston remote be able to control?
