BOLDER Cable will shortly be offering a mod to the 2010 Mac Mini that will remove the internal switching power supply.
A DC connector will be installed in place of the AC connector.
The introductory price for the mod will be $250.00. Please note that this mod WILL void the Apple warranty.
An external 12 volt DC, 7-10 amp, linear power supply should give improved results. BOLDER Cable is NOT offering any power supplies that will produce that amount of current, at this time. I do have a project underway to build just such a power supply for use by music server type computers.
For now, there seem to be a fair amount of surplus, industrial power supplies available. Any of these should be quieter than the internal switcher.
I am willing to take a look at any 12 V power supply to see if it could benefit from mods. Perhaps there might even be room enough to install a Bybee Music Rail
