i am green jelly !!!!
Indigo Girls, one of my favorites, especially their more folkier side.
The Levon Helm Band with John Hiatt and the Combo at Wolf Trap. Levon fronts a powerhouse 13-piece rock'n'roll band. Emphasis on the roll. The band features Larry Campbell, daughter Amy Helm and her band Ollabelle (not billed as such), and a monster 5-piece horn section including the amazing Howard Johnson on baritone sax and tuba! To say nothing of Levon who can still play drums like he always did. This band delivered a great big ole slice of Americana, from New Orleans to Chest Fever. Unfortunately, Levon's voice was shot so he couldn't sing much, but the other singers were all quite good. John Hiatt gave us an hour of his master's clinic in songwriting (Drive South, Your Dad Did, Have a Little Faith in Me, The Open Road, The Tiki Bar is Open, and on and on and on). Hiatt joined the Helm band for "The Weight" and "I Shall Be Released". See them if they come to a town near you.

was at Newport Folk Festival on August 1, 2010 and it was incredible. I caught Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Avett Brothers, Richie Havens, Ben Sollee and Daniel Moore (Preservation Jazz Hall Band and Sarah Jarosz stepped in for a couple songs), The Felice Brothers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Levon Helms. Last song of the fest was Levon Helms I Shall Be Released and everyone joined him on stage. It was a very special moment in time and I hope he stays well and is with us for years to come. As a bonus I managed to meet James Felice and he signed my tee and I have some very cool pics of me with him and Richie Havens was doing an autograph signing so I had him sign my tee and I had pics taken with him too. I am definitely there next year !!! I was at Lilith the day before which for me was no comparison to Newport but the Indigo girls were awesome!
La la la Digital Monkey style...Balkan Beat Box was the bomb Saturday evening at Lincoln Center outdoors...one of the best concerts 'ah' seen this year. A true fusion of musical styles from around the globe.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z0Z2vALLrE&feature=related
Natalie Merchant at the Maryhill Winery Amphitheater, Goldendale WA, August 7, 2010.The amphitheater is located on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River about 15 miles east of The Dalles OR, holds about 1,400 in the reserved section and another 4,000 on the tiered grass terrace. The sound system and acoustics of the venue are great. You can bring in 32 qt or smaller coolers with food and non-alchoholic beverages, and folding lawn chairs. Maryhill was voted WA State's top winery in 2009 and they sell very good wines by the bottle along with lots of food items, but no beer (it is a winery afterall) I prefer the grass terrace genral admission seating where you can spread out. Natalie was awesome, engaging and full of energy--great voice, friendly personality, superb stage pressence and a great dancer. Her voice range and power is jaw dropping. She performed for more than 2:45 including an 8 or 9 song encore that featured mostly 10,000 Maniac-era songs. The concert centered around her new album Leave Your Sleep which is a collection of songs she wrote from poetry for, about or by children she shared with her daughter during the first six years of her life. She showed an incredible range of style as she performed these songs in various styles. She also sprinkled in a few songs from Tiger Lily, Ophelia, and Motherland. She is accompanied by 8 terrific musicians (violin/fiddle, cello, guitar, stand up bass, accordian, percussion, mandolin, various woodwinds).Easily the best concert I have seen this summer and Natalie may be better than at anytime in her career.Laura
That place looks like a mini The Gorge.Same river right?
