Problem getting itouch to control iTunes.
« on: 30 Jan 2011, 08:23 pm »
Greetings I'm posting in hopes that someone might have the nugget of info I need to get my iTouch to control iTunes.I have enabled home sharing in itunes preferences menu and also have the Remote app. installed on my iTouch. The problem is that the appropriate ipod name that is supposed to appear under the devices list in iTunes does not show ,so I can't input the 4 digit code.Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, and welcome to AC!

Assuming you're running the latest versions of both iTunes and the Remote app, and that you've performed a very recent sync, I'd say restore your iPod to factory default and start from there.

In preferences, under devices, make sure you check the box to look for your iPod touch. Home sharing isn't related to using the Remote app on your touch.

Thanks Crimson and Itonkin,I did the reset all and yes the look for ipod is checked in preferences.I made some progress, silly me had it working as a guest on my network so I added it as a device.
Now the library name shows on the ipod's screen but a pop up screen says remote can't connect to your iTunes library , Check your network settings.Since I'm not exactly computer savy I'm not not sure what other settings I need to change.Any ideas?

On occasion my touch takes more than one try to connect to the Mac mini. I think it has to do with not waiting long enough after turn on. Glad to hear you got it up and running.

HeHe it might be difficult not to because the cool factor is off the charts.I'm going to be feeding the  lossless files to the DAC in my main rig, being able to control them remotely is a huge convience.

Well my initial enthusiasm has been tempered somewhat as I have discovered there is still a problem. :( At first start up it functions perfectly, but if I let the iPod go into sleep mode (after 3 minutes of unuse) when it is re-activated the connection to the library is lost. :scratch:I have to restart iTunes to get it working again.I suspect it's something simple but have absolutely no idea as to what.
