I not familiar with a squeezeserver, is this a PC based server? We have tested this many ways. We have lots of mac minis and SSD drives in stock, so equipment isn't an issue. We have done tests where we take a stock mac mini, listen to it, then upgrade the SSD. The difference was noticeable, but since it takes a good 60 minutes to do the upgrade and re-set everything up, we wanted a quicker way to A/B things. We also took a stock mac mini and one where we just upgraded the SSD. The software setups were identical. Again the difference was clear, and the machine swap took only ~2 minutes. In each test we used the same cables, DAC, software setup, etc...Darrellwww.mach2music.com
And for those others also reading this thinking about swapping out their HDD for and SSD, it would be great if those who mention that sound quality is much improved when the music is stored on an SSD--please explain the playback process. Because it can't be the typical: open your player and click on an album/playlist.
I'm not an engineer, but I speculate that the SSD drives help in two ways.1) The draw less power and therefore throw less electrical noise back into the system.2) The read and writes are so much faster the CPU has to wait on disk I/O less. the less the CPU waits or timeslices, then more accurate the timing of the music playback.Darrellwww.mach2music.com
Actually, yes... The gains I spoke of were done while playing the music off a conventional external firewire drive. Darrellwww.mach2music.com
Finally installed my 60 gb SSD and 8 gb of ram. But there is an issue. iTunes does not want to display the contents of my music library, which is stored on an external drive via firewire.I've tried updating the file location in preferences (even switching to a second backup drive) and relaunching iTunes with the option key held down, but nothing is working.Also...I use iTunes in combination with Pure Music, but I don't think that is the issue.Ideas?
I’m having the same problem but I only upgraded the memory have not put the SSD in yet.Using firewire for the external drive.
