Hey Gene, what speakers are hiding on the side of the wall unit ?

You know what it is "Mr Xavier", an AV123 RS1000k with Ninja Master xover upgrade. This is for the HT system. To right of the pic, up in front of window, you can just see the surround, a RS250MKII.

The fireplace is bracketed with Ref 3s for 2 channel, once I have all the 2 channel components settled in, I have to figure out how to treat the fireplace, and other points, to add to the 2 channel experience.

OK, LPs in the Expedit, now for cd storage, seems something ought to fit nicely on top of the Expedit.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the inspiration orthobiz.  I don't have expedit shelving, but your post got me moving to replace the "temporary" (6 months) cardboard backing in my TruValue hardware store shelves with some 1x2s (actually much nicer than what it sounds like like, they're woodgrain shelves that were on sale at the hardware store).  Altogether much nicer, thnx.

Wolfie - not really 'feeling' any of the Ikea offerings, though the 'mat' product looks interesting.

I built one of these:

Not really hard to do.  You only need wood, dowels, and some stain/finishing supplies.  You will need a drill press to drill holes correctly.  And tight to wall placement to keep cd's from falling out.

Why not?  Build it to whatever dimensions you want.

If placed on top of Expedit, you will need to attach to wall with small "L" brackets to prevent toppling.

Looks really cool. If you put a book or two on the lower shelf, guess that means they hold digital AND analog! lol

I braced mine with 4 big angle irons, on the rear side, one per corner.

Much much sturdier now.

I used to use the 5 row x 5 column Expedit, but switched to a 2 row x 4 column which, after bracing w/ angle irons, makes an ideal turntable / component stand - perfect height.
