Hi: I am looking to move up from my Toshiba 3750 dvd player to a newer(older model) universal player,maybe an older Denon 2900,2200,2910 or something similar that has S-video outs and l/r audio outs,no hdmi or firewire, as I like to listen and watch music videos in stereo.I would also like to try some DVD-Audio discs,or SACD...again in stereo.What should I be looking at for the best older set-up? Thanks,Huck

I have a Denon DVD-5900 that I've been considering selling. It has all the ins/outs you require, but it also has DVI and firewire. I bought it new many moons ago, but it still looks mint. I have the original box, manual, and remote. I also had it upgraded to Denon Link 3 so it will pass DSD straight through to any compatible Denon receiver. Shoot me a PM if you're interested. Thanks.

Here's an older pic for reference;

The Oppo DVD players were great universal players.

The latest Sony BluRay players (e.g. BD-570) also play SACD, and get rave reviews for their audio performance.

Also, check the "sweet deals" forum here on AC, I remember there was a cheap Sherwood universal player deal that looked nice.

The Oppo BDP-95 universal audiophile player.  It doesn't have an S-video but it is surely an upgrade to your Toshiba 3750 dvd player.

My two cents, FWIW.  I use an OPPO 981 (~$120.00 on ebay/audiogon) plus a Sony s370 blu-ray (~$100.00 at Best Buy) with a Monoprice HDMI audio stripper.  The OPPO can play everything but blu-ray, but its sacd digital out is limited to 24/88.  The Sony does blu-ray and outputs sacd at 24/176.  The Monoprice has 3 HDMI inputs that can be switched by remote control.  The two players stacked aren't as tall as many single players, so space hasn't been a problem.  HDMI hi-res sure is sounding good at present and for a total outlay of >$300.  Good luck.  Cordially,

BTW, you'll need a DAC capable of reading hi-res to feed the audio stream from the HDMI stripper in the setup I just described.

Thanks to all who replied.I have a 10 year old Sony 52" RPTV which takes component and s-video, which is what I am using now and picture quality is not as important as sound quality,especially for music videos,so HDMI,Firewire and any other fancy hook-up is not needed,maybe when my Sony dies I will look for a player that has all those,but for now stereo l/r outs and s-video.component video is all I need. Will I hear a noticeable difference(for the good) in moving up to the  older Denon's(2900,2200,2910,etc in two channel?) Thanks.

 I have decided to go with the new OPPO 95 when it comes out ! Thanks,Keith
