Thanks for the heads up guys. Mine showed up a couple of days ago and I have been gradually reliving my youth, album by album. The packaging is really top notch with the spinning wheel on III, the moving windows on Graffiti, and even the little rice paper inserts to hold the record, er, I mean CD. The sound quality is very good too, much better than the box of four CDs in the big yellow Atlantic box.

Thanks again for the link. Get yours while you can. Enjoy!

How does the sound quality rate vs. Mothership?

I don't know Mike, I don't have that one. The only Zep I own on CD is the big yellow box of four CDs, which is quite old by now. I picked that one up used quite a few years ago.

Has anyone compared the Japanese SHM CDs to these Remasters?

Since these are all repackaged from the 90s Marino remasters, I would expect that the difference in sound among the various reissues would be mostly loud & louder. The exception would be Mothership, which IIRC was re-EQed and level adjusted by John Davis.

I'm boring...I still own the Diament masterings and the crop circle box.

Yes, I have this set and the Mothership, and the Atlantic box, and the mini-lp sounds pretty much like Mothership, IMO.  The Atlantice box is a bit worse, but not by too much.

the crop circle box

Yeah, that's the old one I have. That's a much better description of the cover, thanks.

These mini LPs are not just a little louder than the crop circle set, but they do sound better to me. Better as in getting more of the raw energy without loosing balance or getting edgy if that makes any sense. I can the hear differences in sound quality between some of the songs on the same album because they were recorded at different times or maybe with different gear (a different location?). To me, getting better contrast and less sameness translates into getting closer to the original master mojo. I don't know if that's right or wrong but that's my feeling anyway.

BTW, if you don't have alot of Zep and you're an old fan like me, none of this really matters. Get the box while you can. The price is right and it's a joy to hold in the hands. I'm more than half way through mine now and still loving it.

Thanks again everyone!

IME, the only Zeppelin CD's that sound anywhere close to the vinyl are the 1st pressing, flat-transfer West German and Japanese Target CD's. I have III, IV, Presence, and Houses of the Holy on Japan and West German target CD's. Any others I have or have heard make me want to run screaming. As always, YMMV.  :D

Set just arrived today, previously I only had the BBC recordings and How The West Was Won. I did have the original first 3 vinyl albums but no longer do so I have nothing to compare them to. Plan on doing a lot of listening this weekend.

Anyone know where "The Complete Studio Recordings [Box Set, Original Recording Remastered]" stands to all these other versions??? This is box set I have. The black and grey colored one.

Hi,

Thank for the heads up.  I just ordered this box set directly from Rhino.  In previous years Rhino did not send cd's directly to Australia but it appears that this has changed.

I have always been a fan of Led Zeppelin and this is a good bye for me.

Btw a friend has an original pressing on lp and it sounds fantastic.

Regards
