Bryston 3B question for Mr. tanner:
« on: 14 Jan 2011, 10:36 am »
James:
I have a single  Bryston 3B (About 20 years old,but working fine), powering a pair of Magnepan MMG's.Thes sound is good, but I'd like to get a bit more volume from the Maggies so I
was wondering if I adding a second 3B of approximately the same vintage, and running them in mono. Would this harm either the amps or speakers in any way? :green:

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

The Maggies are a more difficult load, due to low impedances, than a typical standard dynamic speaker so I would not recommend bridging a stereo amp into mono on them.  When you bridge a stereo amp it 'sees' 1/2 the impedance it does in stereo.

I would say go for a 4B and I think you would find the performance much better.
