The latest version (1.7) is the shiznit!

-Supports FLAC.
-Integrates seemlessly with iTunes
-Supports the Remote app.
-Great SRC.
-Memory play.
-Low resource usage.

And, as a bonus, sounds great.

Rob's customer support is unmatched.  He has "teamviewed" (remote session) into my computer to help work out some issues, etc.  For example, when I demo'd a new DAC (Steinberg MR816X) he helped me figure out that the DAC's MAC firewire drivers were designed weirdly to unload and then reload every time sample rates change, making it impossible to do automatic sample rate changes (since the internal ID changed every time).  He wrote some code in the next day or so and sent me a new beta PM to address it...and now even includes it in the new PM 1.7 (see his PDF that is included with each release; aside from great startup instructions it has a comprehensive list of the changes/bug fixes/improvements since last version).

Great program, great company.

Any updates?  I'll be installing 1.7 sometime today and hope it will fix my playlist stopping, which is keeping me from listening to a full album or playlist without having to go over and hit the spacebar to start it up again.  And maybe even the little bit of stuttering at the beginning of some tracks.  From what the manual says, it looks like this has mostly been addressed.  Also looking forward to giving some hi-res stuff a try through the Tranquility with the new SRC engine.

Any help would greatly appreciated.

have you read the included PDF instructions?  It has a step by step guide to play FLAC.

Sugbob,

On the support page that Ted linked above, there is an explanation of why PM won't play through AirPlay.  Basically, it's a proprietary Apple protocol, so he can't support it, so the airports and AppleTV are out for now.  If I'm reading all that correctly, that is.

Check out Airfoil by Rouge Ameoba. Will send audio to a Airport Express, Apple TV, Mac or PC all at the same time and in Sync.
I use it all the time, only $25 to buy.

Another vote for airfoil, works very well!

Rogue Ameoba have another cool app that can turn an iPhone/iPod touch into a set of iTunes remote speakers, which enables you to listen anywhere in the house to your main music repository as long as you are within wifi reach. Great for terrace listening for example.  :)

I upgraded my PM to 1.7 today. Is it my imagination, or does this current version (1.7) sound a wee bit "brighter" and perhaps a little edgier than 1.65? Other's  experience? :dunno:

I will agree that the sound has more emphasis on the transient attack of the notes.

As to your description of "brighter and edgier; a wee bit" I will reserve judgement.

Perhaps it is less romantic sounding, but is it more accurate sounding?

Good question ZLS. My questions were based on first reactions, after only a couple hours of listening. PM 1.7 is certainly not shy on detail. I need more listening time. The jury is still out for me as well.

Hum... hard to say really. I should have listened carefully to a known tune before upgrading, but didn't. I does for sure sound very good with 1.7 but I did change a couple of settings also (am now using hybrid memory play,...) so it makes even harder to figure out.

Cheers,
Bernard

I updated PM to version 1.65a aboout a week ago. Is this the same as version 1.7? In a recent post on AA, both versions were referred to as latest release, but the 1.65a manual makes no mention of the new functionality (eg. flac capability) in the revisions list. The PM update service has not advised that a version 1.7 is available.

I would like to have the latest version installed. If 1.65a is not the latest, I will need to investigate how to update...

Cheers
Raymond

Raymond,  No, they are not the same.  I've been using 1.65a for quite a while now, and 1.7 is the newest version.

To install it, just open th dmg archive, highlight and copy the 1.7 .app file, and then drop iton top of the 1.65a .app file in the puremusic folder under the applications folder, and you should be good to go -- no need to reconfigure (unless you want to), and no need to re-enter your license code.

HTH,

Jim
