If you are familiar with these you know their mid/bass is rather constricted until they have about 200 hours on them, at which time they start to reach their full potential. The K701 is a rather neutral phone, and has a following among devotees of accuracy. The K701 is one of the most comfortable to wear of any phones made- they're light, with large earpads covered in soft velour. The knap on the velour is tight and not too long, meaning these cushions will not collect lint and dust as some velour earpads will. The headband is padded and backed with very nice leather.
These open ear headphones are perfect for someone seeking a very neutral and accurate sound, either for audiophile listening or for use mixing or mastering in the studio. Impedance is 62 ohm, and efficiency is moderate. Like all high-end headphones, these will sound best driven by a high-quality dedicated headphone amplifier, but they are efficient enough to provide reasonable volume from portable players. They play at a satisfactory level off my iPod and laptop. Note: they have a standard 1/4" phone plug (gold plated) so to work with a portable device you'd need to use a plug adapter, which is included in this sale. From a smoke free / pet free home. Earpads have been slightly compressed at bottom from use, only reason I noticed is because I am a little OCD about my audio equipment. Contacted AKG, replacement pads are available if needed.
