interconnects - test attempt (intro)

Well, here is something that I don't do very often, but it seemed like a good idea......at the time. Over the period of next week or so, I'll try to get to the bottom of the performance offered by these relatively inexpensive interconnects.

Just to give you a little taste of what's ahead, here are fee pictures taken during one of the tests performed in more personal setting:

If $75 shipped qualifies as cheap and cheerful, I suggest contacting Zu for a sample of the Mission ICs which they're selling B-stock of at 75% off.  I just took delivery of a pair today and it sounds better without break in than I expected--if it didn't improve from where it is now it would still be a screaming steal for the price.

I thought about it and it would be interesting to have Zu cables thrown into the mix however...... All cables under review, list for around $100 or less. It's also important to know that in any time in the near future, customers will be able to purchase any of these cables at the same or similar prices as stated in this thread. If Zu Audio can offer these cables throughout the year (2011) in or close to a $100 mark, I'll be happy to include them in this comparison. But honestly..., I doubt that they have time for it and neither do I.

From where I sit, this looks like a daunting task. I really am looking forward to your comments. By using the set ups as shown in your pics, there will be only one set of IC interchange without any thing else changing. Really almost perfect set up for these reviews. Good luck and please keep us informed.

Yeah, but still controversial.
That's part of the game I guess?

Setup will be based around single, analog connection. It should be mention that 2 headphone systems are hooked up to both analog out on Virtue Audio CD player.  After few cuts, cables are swapped and notes compared.
It is still a difficult test.

Later on, cables will be used in more ordinary stereo rig where 2nd round of tests will be conducted. It will also come down to single analog connection.

Cheers

Have there been updates on this subject, and have any of the participants been notified of any developments? It would appear that any interest in this topic would have waned by now. Any thoughts, comments by the participants.
Thanks

I have a recipe for you.

Homegrownaudio.com sells bulk 22awg wire in both copper and silver and with teflon or cotton insulation.

I recently made several 3' braided interconnects for well under $100 that sound great.  RCA's are from Parts Express.

As it appear that this topic has long been forgotten, and apparently the results will not be published I have contacted the facilitator, Mariusz on 1/30/11 and 2/5/11 for an update on the subject As of this writing I have not received a response, and have requested that my cables be returned. I await a reply, and again wonder if any of the other participants have been updated on this topic as my cables were received by Mariusz on, or about November 5,2010. Stewart @ Soundsilver

Yeah, it is a bit strange.  Come to think about it, have not seen any posts from Mariusz for a while now?!  He was pretty active in terms of participating in this forum.  I hope he is OK.

I was interested in the outcome of the comparison too when I saw Mariusz's post back in mid-December.  I personally own a pair of the Sound Silver Trilogy and quite like it (the sound was fairly similar to the MAC ultrasilver+ but quite different to the Audio Art IC-3).  Very curious to see other people's  opinions on some of the cables listed in the list.

Hey Stewart. what gives??? The project here is one that will require quite a bit of work!!! I am impressed that he took on and would attempt a project of this magnitude. I have not seen much of Mariusz but the least you can do is give him some time. Is it really hurting you that he has had your cables for this amount of time? If so let me know and I'll put up for them so he can continue to have your product in the test (unless you don't want the comparison).

Don, no disrespect however, I was contacted in late October and sent the cables the first week of November. It has been a month and a half since we were told an update would be forthcoming within  the next week or so. It just seems that the topic is a bit stale at this point, and any excitement about the results would have waned considerably. And no, I do not need your money, but thanks for the offer.

Waiting with interest! Reminds me of waiting for Jude's part 2 for the review of the Hifiman, or JHA's forever 'next week' delivery of the JH-3A. Life gets in the way sometimes, but ultimately aal izz well :)
