So, I called Gary yesterday to shoot it with him. He mentioned that he's building some HUGE amps for a customer. I begged him to start a new thread here on A.C. so we can see them. He did mention that he will be doing that soon. I really can't wait!

There is no doubt that Gary offers top notch equipment as an insane price. I can't imagine what something that he's been able to create a "no limit" with would be like.

I'm just so happy that he offers just fantastic equipment at real world pricing and it blows away MUCH more expensive gear. He's truly awesome and I thank him for that.

I am just going to sort of breadboard it first, one input one output. Let it burn in for a week the listen to it carefully to evaluate it before I build a proper box....
I have a bunch of russian tubes to try. Looking for a reasonable 6h30 to listen to but not ready to spend those dollars just yet. If the Dodd buff sounds promising them maybe I will try the 6h30
I know Dodd has a big and very vocal following, and I have been curious all along, so I decided to give it a try and I will see. I have a pretty revealing system so it will easy to hear what it can do

Hi Trung,
Did you ever run a Amperex 7308 in your buffer? Do you feel the 6H30 enough of an upgrade that it was worth adding the additional heatsink and reworking your buffer?

He and Gary both told me that the 6H30 was better, by a long shot! I'm going to find out soon.

To me, 6H30 give a wider stage, more detail, vocal is awesome, more tight bass and tight.
6H30DR will do everything as the Sovtek or EH but it does better at the low volume, full body of sound.

Not too much trouble to upgrade the heatsink, if you have the single tube version.

I have tried these tubes so far in the buffer:
stock 6N1P
JJ E88CC
Dario Miniwatt 7308
Genalex 6922

So far the Genalex has been the best sound with my system, with the Miniwatt a close second.

Got the Sovtek 6H30Pi, L-bracket and heatsink. Building a new buffer kit now and installing that from the beginning.

What is the general consensus, will 3" of this heatsink do the job?

Edit: Nevermind, I found this from Gary:
"A heatsink of approximately 2"x4" with fins at least 1/2" tall will be plenty."
