Can you tell us which ICEpower core module is used ?

Will the Cardas Patented Binding Posts clamp down on banana plugs (if the plug body is not too fat) ?

I've been wondering the same after seeing the prices on Audiogon.

What are the differences from the mono blocks you sold m3,4 years ago while I liked ThosE amps. Longer term listening just didn't do it I couldn't pin it down but they were pretty good  they just didn't do it for me ill timesin the long run but there are still times I wonder about them

Yes indeed.

Right now Clement Perry of Stereo Times has a pair of M500's.  That review should be out shortly but I don't have a confirmed date yet.

There is also a reviewer in Poland who has an affiliate site of 6moons that will be reviewing the M1000's early next year.

A few others are in the works but I still need to send them amps.

The M1000 Monoblock uses the ICEpower 1000ASP module and the M500 uses the 500ASP module.*

Some banana plugs will work if the plug isn't too fat/wide.  If the banana plug touches the chassis that will ground the output stage and sent it into protection mode.

*creative naming for the amps eh?!

I think you might be referring to the Amp-1's - little mini monoblocks based on the ICEpower 200ASC module.
They are a lower power ICEpower module with a universal SMPS.  I can't guarantee that these amps will be your cup of tea so I offer all clients a 45 Day In Home Trial Period.  If one finds the amps don't meet their criteria simply return them for a full refund.   :thumb:

The Amp-1's will be coming back in a slightly updated form (trying to get them out before the end of the year but sadly it's looking like I'm getting delayed again  :duh:).

I own the current M500 monos and while I couldn't be happier, I am going to exchange them for the M1000s.  Really fantastic products and Ryan is great to work with.  Also, Cardas makes a spade adapter for bananna plugs, 14$ each.

I didn't realize that the binding posts have no hole in the post shaft and are really only designed for spade lugs.

The adapters could work, but since they are essentially straight, the plug may extend too far down (or up) to be used with short height back panels, so I would probably just re-terminate the cables with spade lugs.

My understanding is that the B&O ASP modules are fully differential balanced, and I would have preferred to have both RCA and XLR connectors on the back panel, as in most of the ICEpower amplifier implementations, but it doesn't look like there is much extra room on the back panel.

hi Steve,

You are correct they are designed to work best with spades, bare wire and pins.  It would be best to re terminate with spades. If you like I would be happy to re terminate your cables at a modest cost (you pick the spades).

"My understanding is that the B&O ASP modules are fully differential balanced, and I would have preferred to have both RCA and XLR connectors on the back panel, as in most of the ICEpower amplifier implementations, but it doesn't look like there is much extra room on the back panel."  It's true there isn't much room back there.  I do offer a couple options.

1. Custom Red Dragon Audio XLR to RCA adatpers with WBT NextGen Cu connectors or standard RCA connectors ($60 and $30 per pair respectively).
These work really well and have a firm, snug fit.  Then you can use either XLR or RCA when you like.

2. Hardwire a Neutrik RCA input instead of the Neutrik XLR input.

Official reviews are still forthcoming but here is a recent customer email:

"Ryan, I received both amps yesterday in perfect condition. I got them
hooked up and they sound fantastic right out of the box. I am
upgrading from a Krell KAV-400xi Integrated that I was using as an
amplifier. There is much more bass control and I lost most of the
"bloated" loose bass that I had with the Krell. The midrange is a tad
more refined and the top end seems to have a bit more air. There is
definitely more headroom as I have over doubled the power from my
Krell. I have Martin Logan Vantage speakers and and feeding them
through a Marantz SR6004 receiver (I am in the market for a pre-amp
with ht bypass). I am using a Rega Apollo cd player, Pro-Ject Rm-5
turntable, and a Logitech Sqeezebox Touch as my sources. The Red Dragon M1000s
are doing exactly what I wanted them to do and they look great. Thanks
for the t-shirt too!"

Are there any published professional reviews yet? I'm hesitant to buy unless I can read one.

Hi Wine Guy,

We are still waiting for them to publish their reviews.  As soon as they are available I will post them here.
Thanks!  :D

Free shipping,, 45 day in-home trial period,,,, is it that you trust the printed word more than you do your own ears and listening preferences that makes you shy away from a practically free demo?   Sorry I just don't understand why you'd need someone to tell you what to like or not like but I hope you'll be reading what you want to hear,,, I guess.  :thumb:

Seems like a no brainer to me if you're interested in these amps.  As Robin says, what else could you ask for?

I need someone to tell me to do stuff. When, where, how? Can I go now?

Seriously, though, yes I like to read reviews and they influence my purchase decisions. Does everyone here go out and see every new film that gets released, or do you sometimes like to read reviews of them before spending your money? New cars? Why not just judge for yourself?

I realize Red Dragon offers a full refund, which is great. But packing it all up and shipping it off while not having the money to have bought something else in the meantime is inconvenient. Hence my desire for at least some general thumbs up or down from a professional reviewer.

You might also want to consider the M-500 monoblocks.  With 250W @ 8 ohm / 500W @ 4 ohm, they have more than enough juice for many speakers.

Decide between the two models, then place an order today.

Just got word today from Clement Perry over at Stereo Times that the M500 monoblocks were awarded "Publisher's Choice" as part of their "Stereo Times Most Wanted Components 2010 Award".   The full review isn't published yet but it should be appearing on Stereo Times soon.

Here is a link to the 2010 Awards page - scroll down to the bottom to see our amps:
