That's all great but will it drive 85dB 1w / 1m speakers?

It depends.
- room size
- its acoustic properties
- kind of music
- preferred listening levels
- amp's ability to handle your speakers load
- your tolerance of limited dynamic range/headroom

But I would say, try it. You have nothing to loose.

This is why I've been asking for specs that will determine this.

Wrong!  It could easily blow up if it's not matched (overloaded).

My GR Research N2X is being driven by one and they sound great, at all volumes, from Metallica to Supertramp

The NS-40 can drive speakers between 4 and 8 ohms and is compatible with 16 ohm speakers.

It does power my VR-2's well and they are around 86db efficient and 8 ohms. It will not drive them to ear-splitting levels, but fairly loud. It did a remarkable job of keeping up with a 100 watt/ch amp on them! It's very snappy for a "little" amp.

How would you expect to damage it? You'll know if it's being pushed too hard when clipping sets in. If it seems like you keep putting the volume up and you're getting little out- then there is a problem. That should not happen as long as the impedance is at least 4 ohms.

The amp may not use turret boards, but that has absolutely no bearing on performance. All the spec's that have been posted are accurate.

Hi Blair and all.
I would like to be on the TOUR list, but being in Vietnam, that would be a big DETOUR and since this is a power amplifier, not integrated, I would need a preamp, which I don't have !
