SLSO Sheherazade

Went to the SLSO this evening.  I have a LOT of different performances of Sheherazade, but the SLSO performance at Powell Hall bettered them all.  Hands down.  This includes the Chicago / Reiner performance, the Leopold Stokowski reading and previous SLSO performances I've heard.  Stunning solo performances, great reading by David Robertson and incredible dynamic range.  A truly wonderful experience.  Others I was with shared my opinion.

They also performed Prokofiev's Classical Symphony (very good performance) and a surprisingly excellent Ades Violin Concerto.  I don't typically like modern classical music, but this concerto was very good.  Worth finding a good recording if one exists of this new piece.

It's a MUST attend concert evening!  Be there or miss out.  Best SLSO performance I've ever experienced.

I haven't looked at the SLSO concert schedule since last season. I see a few that look like they should be pretty good. Unfortunately we won't be able to make the final performance this weekend. Glad to know it was good though   :D

I see Slatkin is coming back for a guest appearance over Thanksgiving  :thumb:

Good to know...I've never been happy when Robertson leads an old warhorse, or in this case, a chestnut.....I only like him on modern pieces.  Maybe I'll try one more time...
Thanks.
