Open baffle mfw15
« on: 12 Nov 2010, 09:31 pm »
Danny said this could work well with the SA1 amp.  Can someone point me to a picture of an open baffle sub, I think I'll give it a try.

Thanks. :thumb:

Got a circle dedicated to open baffle. Typically construction is H-frame like the V1, W-frame like the design on the GR-website, or U-frame.

Thanks Don.  So what if I'm only using one woofer?

I would make a simple box frame, like the V1 H-frame but with just one compartment. It would be fun to try out since it would be simple to build and if doesn't work well in your room you could just go ahead and build a box for it. Use that baltic birch you have for the frame and treat the inside with the damping material that you are going to use for the N3s.

Go for 2, the extra swept volume is really helpful in an OB setup.

This was not really a planned purchase and with my N3 purchase my discretionary spending account is pretty dry.  I would need one amp per driver so if it doesn't work ob it's going in a box.

Since I am only using one driver is there any reason to angle it up or down?

Hmmm.....I thought you could run 2 drivers with the SA-1 amp?

2-15" drivers = $118
1-SA-1 amp. = $129
$247 = not bad for double 15" woof OB sub setup. :thumb:

Danny told me I would need one amp a piece for the mfw 15 driver.

The only reason I can think of to angle the mounting baffle portion of the H would be space considerations overall.

I would just make a conventional H for these, keep it simple for the first build!

I think I know what is meant by the expression but I am still looking for the H in H frame...

If you look at the Super-V picture, the H is the profile looking down from the top, facing the listener.   The driver attaches to the center - of the H.

The MFW-15 drivers are 4ohm whereas the emminence drivers in the V2 are 8ohm.
