help with softsqueeze and squeeze center...
« on: 11 Nov 2010, 12:27 pm »
I  recently had to format my hard drive because of some non related issues. So I reloaded the latested version of squeezecenter and it is working fine with my SB3.
I then loaded "soft squeeze" on the same PC. When I try to start softsqueeze the display says that it can't connect and to "check the server settings"
Which server settings do I need to check/change in order to get this to work??

At the top left corner of the player there are 4 little buttons.  The second from left is Preferences.  You need to set the server hostname for it to find the Squeezebox Server.

My copy of SoftSqueeze has a drop down box which shows the currently running instances (i have a couple) so you should just be able to pick the name.

So I got softsqueeze to work , however now I cant get my SB3 to find my server.
I go through all the steps and it ask if I want to connect to the right IP address that is in my settings but it just says it can't find the server....

Any suggestions...

I have in the past, when I ran mine wirelessly, run into this problem.  I usually had to reset the SB3 totally (google it, I think you hold down one of the buttons).

I would then repeat the setup, and it usually took.

Happy running wired now, for 2 years with 0 hiccups, and this experience with wireles irritation is part of what drove me to spend $100 on a dedicated PC, so I could run wired...

Hi Mark, thanks for the reply.
I hear what you're saying about running wireless, however this SB3 is in a location so that I can listen to tunes in the back yard while I BBQ.. :green: and wired is just not an option.
Anyway I did a factory reset but still no luck conecting to the server...

Are you certain that the IP the SB3 is trying to reach is accurate?  If using dynamic hosting on your router, it may have changed...

I finally got it working, I noticed that the signal strength was only around 21%.
So I unplugged the unit and brought it over to my PC where the server is, plugged it in and went through the steps and good to go.
Took it back to its original location and working like a charm!!  :green:
I guess that the signal strength has an affect when lookong for the server..

Thanks for all the help...
