I am excited to be next on the list for the N1X's. What is most intriguing will be the comparison to the cheap monitors I currently have. The group is Ascend CBM-170 SE, Selah Monitors (SB Dimple Dome & Dayton ND140 sealed), and a pair of Wharfedale Pro studio monitors. It's not as if I have anything fancy but it will be interesting to compare the voicings with bright, dark, and neutral entries. My only problem is that I have a feeling some GR monitors could be in my future. How do I explain to my good wife why I need so many speakers  :duh:

Sell the rest, keep the GRs.  Won't need any others.  Huge step up from those other offerings.

Precisely my fear! I think I will be compelled to build a pair of GR's. I've never built speakers before but the process seems simple enough. I just need to sneak down to my company's model/wood shop with the baffles. What is a good circle jig for this job?

Thank you!!!!!! :thumb:

The smaller Jasper jig is well regarded.  The larger model is more versatile, but for most of Danny's kits, it isn't needed.

I have both and only use the larger Jasper jig, it just feels better as it doesn't hide under the router as much and the long plate gives you another referrence point for remaining level.  As a cost effective bonus - the larger one fits my Harbor Freight plunge router http://www.harborfreight.com/1-1-2-half-hp-variable-speed-plunge-router-67119.html without any modification and it has been performing flawlessly for the $59 investment on my entire build.  With a $10, 2 year, no questions asked return policy tacked on top for a total of $69 it is a no brainer...Pick up a $25 boxed set of 12 carbide router blades for the price of one at the big box store...

I agree that the larger model is the one to own if you are going to use it for more than one project (it's the one I use as well).  But if all you are building is one set of speakers, the smaller one will work.  If you never use the smaller one, sell it to pslate and save him some bucks! :D

good idea, but PE has the combo pack on sale for $44 now and it would pain me to sell the small one to him when the set is on sale for such an awesome deal!!

I would also add to be careful and don't drop your router with the larger jig on it. :duh:

The first time it was ok but the 2nd time it busted off at the mounting bolts.  I had to make a copy with some 1/4" mdf I had on hand just to finish my job.

Never tried the big jig but the small one is incredibly easy to use.  Up to 7 1/2" I think.  Anything bigger and I build my own jig ...
