OK 3950 experts,

Am I destined to look at either ascending or descending track times and never know the Track Numbers in the little digital display? I looked in the manual and played with all the buttons but I can't seem to get anything but track times with no track numbers!
On the remote, lower third section, on left is a button >> FL Select <<. Push it for track numbers. On the 3950...can not show tracks and cd time at the same time. Its either one or the other. :)

3950 and ERS sheets
I have two of these units and from several places including AA got the  rec that damping the chassis and slightly loosening the mount on the PS are good low cost tweak.  I have no prior experience at this but maybe using the ERS paper would also pay big dividends.
Somehow there has to be some middle ground between spending $275 on modding a $50 DVD player and a few more dollars on improvements.  Has anybody done this, and just what, and how, and what kind of improvements were noted?

Here's my better late than never response.
I just picked up a 3950 today.  My SA14 is sick, and I am tired of making it work (long story), so I decided to give this a go, and see what it can do.

I have looked at some of the AA posts (there are a ton), and based on those and looking at a demo unit, seems like dampening makes a big difference.  I have used dynamat, I like constrained layer dampening, but others say you can get big improvements with just floor tiles.  Anything you do will probably help.  Go for any piece of metal the rings if you tap it, like the cover, sides and bottom.

I think ERS could help too, try a little piece over the digital section, and see what happens.

Other things to consider are adding an IEC, but this would void you warranty.  Will let my burn in a month or so before I void my warranty   .

Putting feet under it, I use aurios under my CDP right now.  Also try adding weight on top.  I use lead, but you can try sand or some other metal.

BTW, looking quickly at Vinnie's mods, most of the parts are not that expensive.  Would cost about $40 to buy all the stuff.  If you can do things yourself, I would wager that $40 would make a major improvement.

Try some of the Cromolin stuff:

Auctions usually end between $30-40.  Check out the Soundstage review and the three pictures in the ad that show graphs and background.

Check out this link
http://didnt.doit.wisc.edu/audio/CDP/cdp.html

It describes adding a ton of rope caulk to a cambridge CDP, but I would think it could be applied to the 3950.

His idea for putting a layer of caulk on the bottom of his CDP, to bond the CDP to a sheet of aluminum seems interesting.  I think it would help the 3950 a lot too.
