Duke Ellington and his OrchestraA Drum is like a Woman6 EyeA bit too avant garde for my taste--couldn't get through first track today (just picked it up at the used record store). Will give it another shot when I'm more inclined for dissonance.Featuring Margaret Tynes, Joya Sherrill, Ozzie Bailey and chorus
Ok so this one more than makes up for the amateurish Dixieland album...Blue GeneGene Ammons All Stars (1958 Van Gelder Studios)Gene Ammons Tenor SaxIdrees Suliman TrumpetPepper Adams Baritone SaxMal Waldron PianoArt Taylor DrumsDoug Watkins BassRay Barretto Conga (which really sets this album apart--such sweet conga playing)I took a flyer on this one and it really paid off. I love the straight-ahead bluesy music, the performance is fantastic, and it's a Rudy Van Gelder recording on Prestige (the real reason I didn't hesitate--I figured it had to be decent). Oh and it's in great shape--very little surface noise--and All for $7! Woohoo! I love it when that happens.
